Giant Food — Local services in Centreville

I really like this place. My wife and I used to shop here all the time, but we have recently moved about 20 minutes down the road. Where we used to live in Chesapeake, we had stores called Food Lion, which kind of resemble Giant in a way.

This particular store was always super clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, always seemed to be in a good mood. The shelves were always stocked, they had a really good selection of items ranging from organic and vegan meals to artisan soaps and candles. I'm pretty sure my wife even bought a shirt at this store which had the name of the town over, "Clifton" on it. There is also a pharmacy at this location which we didn't use, but always seemed like the lines moved quickly and never backed up.

They also have self checkout machines here, which we used quite often. If there was ever an issue with a scan or alcohol age check needed, someone would usually help you out in less than 30 seconds.

When we moved to our new place down the road, we had to decide where we would do our shopping. The first night in our new apt we decided to try out a Safeway about 5 mins down the way. We got there and the place was a wreck. Since it was later at night and we didn't really feel like trying out any other new places, we decided to make the trip back to our old Giant and shop there. I'm sure we won't be doing that every time we need to get groceries, but we will likely stop by every now and then, or maybe for big shopping trips.

Overall a pleasant grocery experience. We will miss the convenience of this location and the friendliness...

I've lived across the street from this store for 15 years. I've actually always been a fan of the store. When they installed the automated kiosk I actually thought that was a pretty good way to get in and out of the store quick when you didn't have a big load. They did reduce the number of cashiers but the kiosks worked pretty good. Now that they have tightened security with the kiosk they're incredibly hard to use. They're so hard to use I refuse to use them. However unfortunately they only have one or two tellers working the lanes and those tellers are always extremely slow. Every once in awhile they'll bring out a fast person to handle the backlog of customers who have been waiting a long time, but overall the experience is terrible. I wanted to leave this review as hopefully somebody who has some authority over that store will see it and actually try to address it. The customer experience is horrible going there and I dread going to the grocery store that I've been going to for the last 15 years. It's been like this for probably a couple years ever since they heightened security. My request would be to make the kiosks easier to use or add more tellers or staff it with tellers that are faster than the ones they typically staff them with. The Union Mill Giant is the closest Giant to where I live. I have shopped there regularly since the day it opened. Many store managers have come and gone. One of the current managers, Kenneth, is the most outstanding by far. Here’s why; he’s on the floor consistently greeting customers, providing assistance as needed, projecting a warm persona which has spread to all the employees I encounter, and he is very concerned about the safety of all employees and customers in the store. He also keeps an eagle eye out at all times for any suspicious activity. There are some grocery stores I no longer frequent due to a feeling of lack of safety. Not so at this store. Additionally, the store is always clean, well stocked with a vast variety of choices, giving me a pleasant experience start to finish.
