Today me and my partner went to this ACE Hardware. Unfortunately sometimes race, age, or style accounts for how people see you so I'd like to start off with the facts me and my partner are a biracial (black and white) couple, were both 18, and I personally dress alternatively. We have only been to this ACE a couple of times before today but its always been a noticeably uncomfortable experience in the past for us, as we have felt watched or judged coming in, in the past aswell as today. We came initially to walk around and look down the shopping strip, browsing at cool halloween decorations, looking at gardening stuff, and checking out if they had any ring inlays or wood blanks. When we walked in we actually discussed how it seemed the employees seemed less weird and talked about how theyd maybe hired some new people. We walked around a few times and id like to note my partner was picking up and putting down giant objects and joking around playing with them on occasion. Just pretending to joust or poke me and put them back where they came from apon me telling to go put it back. We looked around a bit and at some point id pointed at some canned chapstick or maybe canned solid perfume because i thought it looked cool, pointing it out to my partner, literally in front of the register and infront an employee as it was near the strip where people usually go down the line to pay but i was just looking at all the random things. We moved on and awkwardly kept seeing the same employee always kind of close to us in the isles which we just thought was awkward coincidence but now i kind of feel like he was maybe trying keep tabs on us? Im not entirely sure. Anyways we go to leave with nothing with us after looking around and this man stops us at the door telling me, " you can go ahead and take the chapstick out of your pocket now," I turned my head and replied "what?" He then said " we saw you grab that chapstick and put it in your pocket," I gave him a confused look and pulled out my pockets to show him, revealing some hairpins and my keys. When he then said " Oh sorry, we saw some guy on the cameras who did that." I understand as someone who also works a retail job that its your job and you have to be thorough, but you cant go on assumptions. They clearly did not go off of any camera, i dont look like any man I dress decently feminine), and if it was me they literally would have known for fact, i currently have short, redish purple hair (very notable). I want to have empathy but its hard to when it feels like profiling based on past experience. I dont think we will be coming back. I think maybe the guy who saw me point at the tin things just saw wrong but i genuinely wish they wouldve at least checked or had a...
Read moreMy wife and I were thrilled that an ACE Hardware store was planning to move to Chamblee. We met the owner and sales associates. Then we called all our family and friends, urging them to buy there immediately to make sure the store survived. We bought many things we did not need, even expensive items that we could have gotten much less expensively in the discount stores, just to support them. The number of customers grew. When Covid-19 became a problem and we could not find alcohol, hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies, ACE brought in a large supply for the neighborhood. All the sales reps wore masks and kept customers six feet from each other. Yesterday my wife and I went there for help and the place was filled with customers. None of the salespersons were wearing masks, especially not the owner. This means that none of them care about their own health, the health of those who shop there nor those with whom we customers would come in contact after leaving the store. We will NEVER return to this ACE store. We will buy at the General Hardware on Peachtree, Home Depot, Lowes, and on-line as before. The service will not be a good, but at least we will have a better chance of...
Read moreChamblee Ace Hardware is the gold standard for what a neighborhood business should be, and I cannot praise Bryan, his wife, and their incredible team enough. Every single visit—of which there have been many—reminds me why I keep coming back. They go above and beyond to ensure every customer leaves with a solution, no matter how big or small the problem.
What truly sets them apart is their genuine dedication to helping their neighbors. On the rare occasion they can’t solve an issue, they won’t hesitate to guide you to someone who can—because for them, it’s not just about making a sale; it’s about taking care of their community.
One standout example: I once dashed in, frantic, needing nothing more than an old cardboard box and some packing tape to ship something next door. Bryan and his team didn’t just help—they treated it like it was their top priority. It’s these little moments of kindness, attention, and care that make Chamblee Ace Hardware an irreplaceable part of the neighborhood.
If you’re looking for a business that truly values its customers and treats you like...
