I stopped by Hashtag Gaming Arena recently looking to purchase an Enhanced Booster Box for PokĂ©mon Mega Evolution. Earlier that same day, I had seen a photo clearly showing the price at $245. However, when I arrived — not even 10–15 minutes later — the price was already changed on the spot and increased significantly. When I mentioned that I had just seen it listed for $245, the employee asked where I saw it and then chuckled. He explained that the price increase was to "match market prices." While I understand that small businesses need to stay competitive, the way this was handled left a really bad impression. There was no attempt to honor the price or even meet halfway. Instead of trying to provide a good customer experience, the situation was just brushed off. It felt like the store was more focused on chasing a few extra dollars than building trust or loyalty. If the price had changed the day before or something, I’d get it — but this was within minutes of a clearly advertised price. Honoring that price, or at least acknowledging the discrepancy seriously, would’ve shown integrity and respect for the customer. Unfortunately, this experience makes it clear that customer care isn't a priority here. I really wanted to support a local gaming shop, but this kind of attitude just makes it hard to justify coming back.

Bingo night at Hashtag turned into impromptu karaoke night. Bingo night almost became a disaster when all of the boards were sold. Good thing David was there with his back up plan to save the night. Our host Marc entertained us with some karaoke with the power of YT. Maddie's first night on the bar solo but she kept up with our constant demand of food and drink. Once she had to leave and Hashtag was short handed David once again saved the day by rocking the bar alive and kept the drinks flowing. Chris of course picked up the slack by minding the rest of the store. Great team there. I had more fun that I thought I would, probably genuinely some of the most fun I've had in awhile.

This place is amazing! So much space, the staff is very helpful and flexible on reserving space for mtg, ttrpg and boardgames, Cory always greets me with a smile and checks up with me and other regulars to make sure we are always having a good time, and even my first time there he made sure we got some space for my DnD campaign. Also the Bar is always having some new cool drink to try, very wide repertoire, never seen the staff allow anyone to get one too many drinks, very responsible establishment.

I loved this shop before dealing with the owner. For full transparency I am the fiancĂ© of the guy who had his deck stollen from this store and have more information on the topic. I have been to this shop a few times and have loved all the workers as well as the crowd that goes (didn’t love that they have the most expensive packs in the area but I was ok with supporting a smaller lgs). The whole situation with the deck was stupid from the beginning starting with my fiancĂ© calling this shop almost every day after finding out they had his deck and he was then polite for the whole following conversations about this even when they told them that they lost his $700 commander deck he still was as nice as he could possibly have been in that situation. The options offered to my fiancĂ© were to take all of the cards from his deck that were in there case that were his (1. It was only about $250 worth of his cards 2. This was after going back and forth about them saying they didn’t have his deck and then they did have his deck then they had it but gave it away then bought the whole deck the next day) or his second option was to take the cost of the deck (which he showed them the entire deck list from that deck as well as some photos of the cards from that deck that had specific misprints) and if he chose the option to take the monetary value of the deck he would be banned from the store. These options according to the owner were given after my fiancĂ© “threatened” him and his staff which in no way happened. The “threat” in question was my fiancĂ© saying if they were unable to get the surveillance system or offer another solution that he would need to involve the police because of the cost of the deck. This was met with the owner proclaiming his relationship to a lawyer implying for my fiancĂ© to think twice before that. Once everything was over with the owner then decided to use my fiancĂ©s full name in a reply to a review about this situation and when I tried to call the owner to ask that he refrain from doing that in the future as it was nothing but unnecessary and rude but when I called and left my name and phone number (over a week ago now) I was never contacted. Again I loved this shop and all of the people there are wonderful but the owner is self absorbed and rude. I won’t be going back or trusting my stuff there. Moral of the story go here for friends but make sure all your stuff is with you and avoid the owner at all costs.

Edit due to response: my fiancé went into the store twice during the week that you gave him the run around with the deck and the first time was because he was told the deck was there over the phone so he came in the next day to learn the deck was lost. He did call 3 times on 3 separate days regarding the deck due to it again at the time being missing and he was informed they were looking for it then being told that the number he left was thrown away. Please refrain from continuing to lie in the future when you simply do not know the whole situation. The staff at hashtag know my fiancé very well as he came in every week, they were not uncomfortable and he did not cause a hostile Environment because he believed that the deck was just misplaced and was just told 6 different stories about where his deck was during the week he was trying...

The events that are 5-10$ in other places are 30$ here! They dont give good (or any) prize support. Because the turnout for the touny was small, they took away the winner prizing! Most shops will give a pack for participation, and put packs into the prize pool They give 1 promo and thats all The owners reply says they give MORE prize support, but when i asked if we can get more than 1 promo for 30$ entry And i tried to explain that every other shop in the area gives more and charges less, the manager told me basically to shut up, and not interrupt him while he is speaking, even though there was a pause in the conversation. the manager became agitated and stated that they have so many extra but they cant give any of it away, and that he doesnt care what ither shops are doing. Thats bad business. You are literally competing with other shops, and pushing players to go to those shops instead. Again, every other shop is THROWING its promos at players. They dont know how to run events And They dont take feedback. The owner says he is only one call away, but the manager refused to contact him to address the problems me and other patrons had. I, and the other tournament attandants all felt ripped off and asked to contact the owner, and the managers words were "yea im not going to do that" The only reason some of the attendants stayed was that they realised that this is one of the only shops holdong the event, and some of them drove 1hr to 1hr30 to get there Most battle spirits products are twice the msrp As of writting, battle spirit starters are 30$, instead of 15. Core pack are 20 instead of 10

Everything else is extremely over priced too 3$ for a bottle of 15 cent water. The owners reply will have you believe its aquafina which its not. Its Niagra and a pack of 32 will cost you 5$, which means 15 cents per bottle Even if it was aquafina a simple google search and you can see it costs $6-8 for a 32 pack literally anywhere And its not just the waters that are over priced, its all of the drinks. Even if you can bring your own water, its scummy to upcharge a 15 cent bottle of water for "2.50" Do the math and that is a 1566% price mark up.

And the fact that the owners reply is disingenuous of the situation, and saying the i, the customer, am is the problem, saying "show me where i can get water for less than 1 dollar" and "show me a product that is 2x msrp", and "we dont take feedback from rude customers" I guess everyone at the event was a "rude customer" because they all had the same feedback that i had.

Like someone who cares about the customers would say "Im so sorry that you had a bad experience let me get to the bottom of that and see how i can alleviate it. Your patronage is very important to us" But even the manager says he doesnt want to support the game we are playing anymore, because not enough people show up Well yea when you over charge your events and products and refuse to accommodate paying customers Of course nobody is gojng to show up! But i guess when you upcharge your drinks by 1500% you can...

A friend left his deck at Hashtag after a commander night and hashtag posted about it on discord. He went to pick it up and what ensued the next few days was an array of stories from the LGS on what happened, including but not limited to: "we don't have it", "we mistook it for an order and put some of the cards in the display case" (easily verifiable by unique misprints), "we don't have it and we never did", and the final sticking story of "someone must have came in and claimed it was theirs then sold it back to us the next day". And let's not forget that the story of security footage also ranged from "we don't have it" to "I didn't see anything on it" to "we don't have any footage past a certain date". How can you be so incompetent to not even verify ownership before giving it away? And not only that, but to antagonize the person who actually owned the deck for your own mistakes? The owner threatened that his wife is a lawyer, in case of police and potentially lawyers getting involved. There were several offers from the owner to resolve this, including a) leave and call it a loss, b) take the roughly $200 worth of cards from the case and never speak of this again (the deck was worth over $700), and c) get a full cash reimbursement and get BANNED FROM THE STORE. Imagine banning one of your most loyal customers because you don't know how to handle lost property. My friend went with option C, as a ban doesn't mean much considering none of us will ever go to this store and support the scumbag owner again. When giving my friend the money, the owner made him sign an agreement that he would never return to the store, would not leave a bad review, and his FRIENDS would not leave bad reviews (obviously that last part got removed, screw you, you cannot control me). The owner really cares about his own reputation more than the community that makes this place successful, and its really messed up to see that. Lastly, when my friend was leaving, the owner was saying things like "how am I supposed to feed my daughter" and "now I can't afford to take my wife to dinner". Maybe if this situation was handled properly from the get-go you wouldn't need to turn on the crocodile tears. Besides, I'm sure that you as a business owner with your lawyer wife will be just fine.

EDIT: turns out one of your homies calling out scummy behavior is grounds for a ban (though the first post was removed because owner threw a tantrum), while the ban was part of the original offer. 5/5 store if you're looking to take stuff from lost and found I guess.

Edit 2: I want to add that my friend never said a bad word about any employee of Hashtag or the owner, despite what the owner says in his reply. There was no campaign of vitriol and hatred, and my friend is not some cultish ringleader. We all loved this store, and I will genuinely miss being able to play there. But leave it to a scumlord to gaslight and make himself the victim instead of taking responsibility for their mistakes....
