Meadowmont Village Center makes the neighborhood of Meadowmont one of the few walkable neighborhoods in Chapel Hill. The Village, modeled after an old time main street, has everything you need for everyday life. The soon to be Kroger, Harris Teeter grocery store is across the street from the UNC Wellness Center so you'll be in good company if you shop in workout clothes. You can stock up for your next party at the ABC store. The South has beautiful traditional gifts, linens and home accessories. There are quite a few restaurants in Meadowmont Village, some with outdoor seating. Real Estate is Hungry Work so I'm there a lot, especially at my two favorite restaurants for meeting clients, Cafe Carolina and Brixx. Firehouse Subs has a good bowl of chili for an occasional cold afternoon. There is a big pool and clubhouse in the Village owned by the YMCA, Walking trails wind and connect with sidewalks so you can walk for miles. House prices range from the 400's to over a million with most homes in the $600,000 to 950,000 range. Condos are in the 500's and large brick townhomes with elevators start in the 700's. The Cedars of Meadowmont is a very upscale retirement community with cottages to assisted living. Meadowmont Village is just a couple of miles from UNC in one direction and I-40 in the other. Rashkis Elementary (Chapel Hill Schools) is in the neighborhood. Not all of the homes in Meadowmont are in the Chapel Hill School District, even if the home has a Chapel Hill address, some are in Durham County Schools. Meadowmont Village is charming and one of the most popular neighborhoods in...
Read moreI am here usually about once a week. It has an atmosphere that does feel a bit like a village which I am sure was intentional based on the name. I have business to handle while I am here, but if I am not in a hurry that day, I do find this to be a nice place to walk the sidewalks and see what other shops and businesses are here. And then there is a nice fountain in the middle of the roundabout. I really only have one bad thing to say and that is really just a side effect of being a very popular place. I sometimes have trouble finding a parking spot. I do not mind a long walk, so I drive around until I find one, but if you want to park near your destination, it could be a problem some days.
So, it has a nice atmosphere, a variety of businesses, and is a pleasant place to walk around. I was tempted to take one star off due to the parking, but frankly, they did a good job planning this place, it is...
Read moreYou have to negotiate 10 speed tables to get from Ephesus Church Road to the shopping area at Meadmont Village. I say this upfront because that's the reason I avoid going here from West Chapel Hill most of the time. The only other way to get into the shopping area unless you live there is to come out from Chapel Hill on I40, then down through all of the lights and traffic on 54... or come out through all of the congestion of 15-501 South. In short, it's a great location that isn't easy to get to quickly unless you already live there. That being said, it's cute location with an interesting mix of shops and small restaurants. Some locations seem to flip frequently, but others have been there since it opened up. Brixx always seems to draw the largest crowd and has a really nice outdoor seating option near the center of the shopping area...
