I just happened to be dogsitting for 2 weeks nearby when I found this bookstore while searching the Charles Town area on google maps. My friends whom I had been dogsitting for gave me a gift card for Abolitionist Ale Works which was only a few blocks from Fuzzy Dog Book Store. I decided to visit the bookstore first since it was around 5:30/6pm and they were to close at 7pm.
The bookstore is in an older building and has a parking lot behind the building. I was greeted by a store employee upon entering the store. She explained the layout of the store and how there are 3 floors of books. Music could be found in one room on the first floor.
I lost track of time and the store employee came and found me alerting me that the store was closing. I found 3 books and asked if I could purchase them. The employee seemed annoyed and refused to check me out. I gave her the 3 books I had planned to purchase and left the store.
Something felt super off about the bookstore ordeal. It really bothered me. So I did some research, found and sent the owner Sara a message explaining the awkward incident. She gave me call and we had a good chat. She was super nice and professional about the situation. She assured me that she will be working with employee to improve her customer service skills. Sara even went out of her way and found the 3 books I had wanted to purchase. I wanted to come back to her store because I truely did enjoy the variety, selection and organization of the store. She let me know that she was placing the books at the register and would let the employees who were opening know that I was coming to purchase them. She even mentioned the farmers market that is open on Saturday mornings right outside of her store. ā¤ļø
So obviously, I had to check out the farmers market! I got some dog treats for the dog I was dogsitting, coffee and pastries. I then picked up my books and I was all set for the morning.
Thank you to Sara and the two young ladies who assisted me with my purchase. I really appreciate it. I hope to return to the store next time I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really wanted to like this place, I was really excited to go for the first time. I sent an email to them with a question and never got a response so I went in. Both men that were there, I think one was the owner because he was older, were so incredibly rude and unfriendly. No one greeted me when they saw me, they didnāt even look my way. I didnāt stay long because I felt so unwelcome. Even my young son thought they were rude, which is saying a lot because heās 7. I brought in some books of mine to donate that were in excellent condition and when they took them from me they never even said thank you. That was the most insulting part. I am giving you free merchandise to sell and you say nothing to me? Very...

It was a pleasure digging through Fuzzy Dog, and I found a few favorite records that I have had a hard time locating in record stores. On top of that, new records here were incredibly affordable. Then, as you are browsing, you find a quality used book and dvd collection wrapping around the records. I ended up finding a great edition of a dvd I have been looking needing. Fuzzy Dog is a gem in Charles Town, and we will definitely visit again when we visit...
