Honest review of Alta Warp + Weft (COVID 19 Edition)
I've been here for over 6 months so it's time to leave a lengthy review!
Staff - Staff are super friendly, like any complex employees seem to come and go but i've only had positive experiences with the staff here. My tour was fantastic and they offered me a great price on the apartment. The maintenance guys are awesome and friendly as well. This property isn't owned by one of the big corporations and it shows.
Appliances - Washer and dryer are OK, they get the job done but definitely a little noisy and tend to rattle very loudly if you put in a huge load. The bathroom is great, lots of water pressure in the shower and the water heats up quickly. I haven't had any issues with my kitchen appliances, they're pretty standard. For what I pay I wish the fridge had a water/ice dispenser.
Build Quality - Everyones big question ... "Can you hear your neighbors and are the walls thin?" The answer is kinda. I can occasionally hear my upstairs neighbor, but I don't have noisy neighbors so its not a huge issue. I know some places you can hear people next door if they're whispering, that isn't the case here, but the walls aren't made of brick either. If wanting a quiet space is important to you, you may want to rent on the 5th floor to insure that.
Parking - Having a secured deck was a big deal for me. There is plenty of parking and I haven't had to worry about my motorcycles getting stolen. The deck is tight so if you have massive truck you might want to be carful. Traffic always seems light and i've never really gotten jammed up before, but maybe that's because of COVID.
Amenities (COVID edition) - Haven't been able to use the gym or common areas yet which is a bummer, but this whole year has been a bummer sooo ... what are ya gonna do? The pool are is clean and generally pretty calm compared to other places i've lived. The pool is in the middle of the complex so you get very little sunlight, but you know that going into living here. Coffee machine is awesome, there was supposed to be free beer as well, but that has been killed by COVID. Hallways are very clean and cool! A lot of other places I look at complain about elevators and hallways being trashed or smelling like dog poop. That's not the case here.
Residence - There is a good mix of people here, it is much more diverse than other parts of Charlotte which I love. It appears to me most people are in there mid/late twenties and early thirties. There are a few families here as well. If you're looking for a frat house this is not it, try moving to the south end. The residence here are a little older and everyone i've met has been awesome. At night sure there are people who party but it never gets out of hand, or has kept me up at night.
Location - 5 minute walk to Optimist Hall, 10 minute walk to Heist Brewery and NoDa. Uptown is a 10 minute drive and South End is 15 minutes tops. We are 50ft from a lite rail station if that is important to you. The apartment is in an up and coming area but i've never felt uncomfortable or not secure before.
Why should you move here? Great floor plans (and good deals) Late 20s/early 30s crowd Good amenities Secure parking deck Near but not "in" the action Complex is clean/friendly staff
Small gripes loud washer/dryer no water/ice machine outside fridge apartment doors could be a little thicker as the hallways can be noisy

Read moreI adored this place when I moved in, but eventually couldn’t take it anymore. I’ve lived here 3 years and through 3 different management companies.
The cons:
Management changed 3 times in 3 years and each time was an adjustment. Alta Warp & Weft, Live at NoDa, then Abberly NoDa Vista. Things never got as good as when it was Alta Warp & Weft.
With a nearby murder occurring and a shooter inside the parking garage, there was little to no urgency on management’s part to alleviate residents’ concerns. After a safety meeting, we were explicitly told that management would purposely be taking zero action to enhance safety.
key fobs are basically useless. Any and everyone can easily access the building with little effort. Dangerous considering the closeness of the light rail stop.
There have been multiple reports of car break-ins. Likely because the garage entrance gate stays open much longer than the exit gate. 4-5 cars can easily enter at a time, but only one can exit at a time. When residents asked for the timing to be fixed, management said “just slow down when entering”
Extremely thin walls. EXTREMELY THIN. I can tell you exactly what song my neighbors were playing or what show they were watching at any given moment. I had a pool view and I could hear exact words from conversations from the 4th floor. If you’re okay with noise and basically having your neighbors as noisy roommates…move here.
Quite a few loud parties are not being checked. Sometimes they go until 1 or 2am. I could constantly hear the music over my TV and noise canceling headphones.
No checking of the cars parked in the garage. Anyone can pretty much park there. There have been so many times when I couldn’t find a park because so many non-residents were parked there. Lots of people without handicap stickers/window hangs/license plates are parking in the accessible spaces. Plenty of out of service cars use parking spaces as storage.
Pros
The staff has always been incredible. Leasing office staff is patient and friendly, always eager to help! They take the time to explain everything you need and they are extremely knowledgeable!
-Maintenance staff are quick to answer calls and do projects quickly. In and out of your place with little to no disruption. So friendly and easy to speak with.
Very clean grounds. Both management and the residents take the time to keep Abberly NoDa Vista tidy.
-Great Amenities. The pool has always been clean and clear and is cleaned frequently throughout the season. The gym is very clean.
Technology and appliances are kept up to date and they’re constantly improving our experience
Lots of fun and interesting events to go to and I’ve met some amazing friends along the way! So many kind residents.
Close to the light rail and great access to uptown and walking distance to both NoDa and Optimist Hall.
Stunning decor! I always get compliments from guests at how fun and beautifully it’s decorated

Read moreI’ve been a resident here for ~2 years, and I’d unfortunately advise you to avoid Live at Noda.
I really wanted to love this place (and have valid pros and cons) but I’ll explain in detail why I left them 2 stars.
THE BAD:
Safety: My girlfriend’s locked bike was cut and stolen out of the garage, there was a suspected gunman on the premises, a homicide around the corner, broken windows, car break-ins, and guns fired in the parking garage. A lot of these things are out of management’s control and safety is never guaranteed, and I totally get that. But it’s their job to over communicate, respond and act quickly, and prioritize their residents’ sense of safety. Instead, they’re dismissive, fail to communicate, and let residents sit there confused if it’s safe to leave the apartment or not.
Security: The parking garage gates will be left wide open for weeks on end allowing anybody and everybody access to the building. They’ve even sent aggressive text blasts to the whole apartment complex blaming residents (saying drivers get too close to the gate) for what is actually fundamentally flawed engineering.
Repeated and constant issues with management: I know a little bit of turnover is expected anywhere, but here it’s constant. It’s not uncommon to have to re-explain things you’ve already explained to multiple other employees. When my girlfriend and I moved from one apartment to another, the new management (Knightvest) lost our lease in the transition and forced us to go through the entire moving paperwork process again. This is concerning because a lot of confidential information is exchanged in the process. I’m a human being, and I understand that mistakes happen. But don’t let internal communication issues be felt by residents who pay a premium to live here.
Lack of Transparency: They nickel and dime you every step of the way when it comes to sub-letting or early lease takeover. There’s essentially zero flexibility unless you pay an exorbitantly high fee.
Construction: If you do decide to live here, expect lots of noise, frequent roadblocks by large tractors, glass and nails all over the area where cars enter and leave the garage, construction debris, dust all over your car (even if it’s parked in the garage).
THE GOOD:
The apartment complex is super nice, modern, and well-maintained (pool, game room, fireplaces, arcade, back area, etc. are awesome). They also offer a really nice variety of floor plans to fit whatever you need.
Alexa and a few other employees I talked with have been very friendly, helpful and professional (it’s mainly the Upper Management all the problems stemmed from).
-Cleaning and maintenance staff are amazing, friendly, and quick to solve any problems.
