I can't believe I gave them one star... lest, the "star" of the show was a young male worker. Apparently, while shopping at the beauty supply store next door, I thought I'd walk in to grab a bite to eat, upon entry I went directly to the freezers for frozen divers, as I was just getting off of warehouse work, I naturally built up an appetite. As I'm just about to open the freezer, this young man comes to me asking that I leave my belongings in the front of the store. At first, I bargained to just leave the merchandise that I'd just recently bought no more than 2 minutes prior, to ease his possible doubts and/or concern of sorts, considering he thought to push "policy" on me. I respected the policy but thought there was ABSOLUTELY NO NEED in enforcing a policy that I had anything to do with, considering I'm extremely honest, respectful and above all, absolutely no thief. I also had a clear book bag full of my work shoes and jackets from the early morning walks to work‼ Since, I'd noticed he hadn't provided me with 6 feet of clearance, considering the pandemic, I thought that'd be good policy to practice. In asking that I'd leave, I declined his request as I'd done absolutely nothing wrong regarding my entrance, shop, and paying of my merchandise. After paying, however, I told him to "never insult my intelligence", and "have a nice day", and how those were not requests, but demands! I felt awful! I'd literally just finished work, I work almost EVERY DAY I'm generally VERY EXHAUSTED! I've ALWAYS shopped at multiple Compare Foods locations, Sharon Amity is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE LOCATION! With North Tryon St and Arrowood as my other locations to shop at! Their locations NEVER made me feel stressed, nor insulted. They always play good music and had awesome exotic produce! The Sunset Ave location must have a problem of sorts. Maybe that guy is stressed and needs a vacation, but I absolutely felt targeted. The cashiers were cool and had I'd not been harassed, I probably would've bought some more items but hadn't been able to enjoy getting to the produce (my favorite part of...
Read moreI have shopped at Compare Foods on occasion. They have a fantastic selection of ethnic fruits, vegetables and spices. But...I would be remiss if I failed to point out that there prices are substantially higher than the previous "discount grocery store" that they bought out. The staff members are very friendly and the store is absolutely immaculate, everything is handicap accessible as well. When people are used to paying discount grocery store prices and you move in and in some cases are charging astronomically higher prices, you tend to lose a lot of your base customers. Just Save was known far and wide for their fried chicken and discount prices. Granted, Compare Foods still sells a great deal of fried chicken. But, I think that quite a bit of the previous tenants loyal customer base will probably choose to shop elsewhere. Coupled with the fact that they are still not taking WIC, or EBT cards and they are still not selling alcoholic beverages after being in business for a couple of months already. I don't believe that this store has much of a chance at longevity and/or profitability. My greatest pet peeve would be, that I drink Pepsi and prefer to purchase mine in the 2 liter plastic bottle. The only 2 liter Pepsi's that they had in stock was Mango Pepsi. I do realize that Compare foods major demographic are Latino customers. This I understand, but what I don't understand is why you would alienate all of your non-latino customers. Anyway, those are my thoughts on this particular grocery store. And your non-latino customers will shop wherever they choose to as well. If you took the time to read this review, please take a 1/2 second and click...
Read moreBought groceries yesterday. A bag of chips were stale and there was black mold in a tostitos queso dip. This means they are not rotating stock. Its across the street from my house otherwise I would have just tossed them but I needed vinegar and dish soap. I didn't have the paper reciept but showed the manager my credit card statement from yesterday that showed I spent xxx $67 at compare foods. He told me that wasnt proof but he would let me do it this one time. Apparently he assumed I was concerned about 9 or $10 opposed to apologizing for selling a product that was stale and a product with mold. Beyond that ive walked across the street with my backpack instead of driving. They make you leave your backpack with an employee while you shop. The cherry on top is this store is just as expensive as the whole foods next to my work in uptown charlotte. All the cashiers ive met have been friendly but the store is visibly dirty, the wine selection is comparable to a gas station, the nicest mens razors are Gillette Mach 3s which came out 20 years ago and the grocery selection is extremely limited. Im assuming the prices are so high due to theft as this is a low income area. By all means please keep the $9 bag of stale chips and moldy dip. I would prefer to drive half an hour away than step foot in this establishment again. Im sure you have enough clientele utilizing ebt cards to keep your buisness afloat. I avoid walmart like the plague and would still prefer shopping there over compare...
