We came to pick up some tortillas for our taco party and ended up getting some extras because of how fresh things looked.
-Tortillas: $2.50/lb -Chicharonnes w/ meat: $11.50/lb -Salsa verde and pico de gallo: $4 a container -Queso Fresco: $7/lb (1 block of cheese was roughly 1lb)
You place your order of tortillas at the counter where they will call out your order amount in spanish. We aren't native speakers, but the person who took our order realized that we might not have heard his first call out and spoke in english to tell us our order was ready. Everything was fresh and delicious. The tortillas were supple and seemed to be made with lard. I also purchased their in house crema and it was phenomenal. It had a flavor that was in between mayo and queso cheese. We used this on our elotes and they were bomb. The queso fresco had a lot of moisture. Be sure to remove excess water if you are to use them in elotes because they'll have a hard time sticking. Be warned their spicy salsa verde is SPICYY that also comes with a long burn afterwards.
The service and people were so friendly to us (non-natives) that we didn't feel intimidated trying to give our orders. We will definitely come back to try their...
Read moreI have been here 5 times. They specialize in tortillas and meat. Salsa is available at the register, and I have not decoded when the "pico de gallo" salsa is available as sometimes they don't have it. This lead me to try some of their other salsa offerings, and i'm glad I did. The red sauce is ancho chilli I think, and the green is made from tomatillo. Both are spicy and packed with flavor. I picked up a baggie of sliced limes and a whole avocado from the register as well on the way to a picnic in the park. Combine that with the soda and beer available in the many coolers and you have all of the fixin's for a latin meal. English is understood fairly well, but you most likely will be the only native speaker. Pointing and giving weights is almost universal. I have had only one problem with communication, I was given the wrong kind of cheese. I have since learned that the name of the cheese I like is "queso fresco" that is the fresh crumbling cheese, similar to feta. They swapped it out, no problem. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a GREAT take out, make your own...
Read moreThese guys as well as the Hispanics selling watermelon on the back of their truck in the parking lot and the girl selling fruit cup under the tent in the parking lot are overcharging anyone who’s not Hispanic. The fruit cup girl tried to charge me $10 a cup and the watermelon guy told me $10 for a watermelon. Lupitas charged the couple in front of me significantly less then he tried charging me. I’m Dominican with dark skin so I’m mistaken for a black American most times and I was born here so my English is fluent and I don’t have an accent but my Spanish is even more fluent because my entire house speaks Spanish. Stop trying to get over on other nationalities. If you don’t want them to support your business just say that but overcharging just because someone looks different is not right. This happens way more often then others think and I will write a review everytime. Treat everyone equal or only sell to your people. I will never spend another...
