I couldn’t be more dissatisfied and sad about my Root’s Catering experience. I won’t mention the first impression hiccups because I truly felt like the service manager made up for it.
But the food was absolutely terrible. I paid nearly 700$ for a jamón station that was serving my guest thick slices of ham that my guest couldn’t event eat. I literally cried about how terrible this jamón service was because it was my absolute dream to have it at my wedding. And I was assured over and over they had done this before. Impossible, serving thick slices of jamón is disgrace.
Moreover, they pushed me to hire an absurd amount of servers and they did so with zero consideration for the small space. I had a server for every five guest. I couldn’t dance without stumbling into one. The waiters would deliver food without telling guest what it was.. I had someone with an allergy eat something and get sick because of this lack of oversight and carelessness.
Im grateful that I tried some of the food because at least it had some edible things after my revisions. But the disappointment was through all the courses …Croquettes , which they were confident they could do.. were soggy and unrecognizable. The rice that was bland and cold. Even unapproved menu items like a random salad and pasta salad showed up without approval.
I wish I would’ve taken note of the red flags and realized that they were never going to be able to deliver a custom experience. If you are picking from their standard menu, you’re probably safe. But don’t trust them telling you they can customize or even deliver on an experiences. Don’t waste your money and and don’t risk ruining you most special day.
I lead large corporate events and had them deliver countless lunches but when the stakes are high you definitely can’t count on...
Read moreWorking with Roots was amazing! We moved to Charlotte and had no idea what vendors were good, and had very few recommendations to go off of. We reached out to Roots, and they were immediately responsive. Alyssa, in particular, was thorough, followed up when I forgot to respond, and was always quick to answer questions. When we started working with ROOTS, we knew we were going to be in great hands. They were reasonably priced, and had incredible options for all of our guests preferences. When we did the tasting, we were delighted to find Alyssa was just as kind, warm hearted, and personable in person as she was over email. She was easy to work with, reliable, and there were no curve balls anywhere in the process. She opened a bottle of champagne for us at our tasting, toasted us, and we had a lovely evening in their tasting room! On the night of the wedding, Alyssa couldn’t be there (we missed her dearly!) but the ROOTS staff that was there was also exceptional. When I dislocated my knee during our first dance, the staff was quick to bring me a bag of ice and a towel, serve us dinner right at the table, and accommodate us after the unfortunate incident. Also, one of the staff members was an absolute hoot all night!! He was dancing around, cheering us on and even got a few shoutouts during the speeches! Overall, I couldn’t imagine our wedding process and day without Roots, their team, their effective communication from start to end, their energy and excitement for us, and most...
Read moreI used Roots to cater my wedding last week. At our tasting the food was way too salty, and this was asked to be adjusted. On the day of the wedding, half of our guests liked the food and half did not. The half that did, really liked the shrimp and grits, however they did not like the fact that it was portioned. The half that didn't enjoy the food complained that the roast beef was dried and the green beans were too hard and undercooked. My husband and I could only confirm some of the remarks as our plates were served to us COLD! It wasn't hot, or slightly warm. IT WAS JUST COLD., so we didn't eat much but a few bites. I sent my plate back to be reheated and it still wasn't hot enough. We both agreed that the beef was dried and the green beans were too hard. The carrots on the beef was good and the au gratin potatoes would have been good had our food been hot.
In regards to the hors d'oeuvres, all the guests really liked them. We were promised that the wedding party (whom were out taking pictures) would be served these appetizers during cocktail hours. My wedding party had to go hunt down the servers to get food and my husband and I only received 2 crab cake and 1 chicken and waffle.
I'm not very satisfied with the dinner food quality nor the cocktail hour wait service. The only other interaction that we had with Roots employee was during our tasting and they were nice, so I was stocked to receive below par food...
