I really didn't want to write a negative review but at this point I feel it is right and fair as others need to know about the dishonest and unethical business practices of Cowbridge Furniture. We gave Scott and Lisa several opportunities to correct the issues and problems they caused us both monetary and wasting our time but to no avail. So here is my objective review. My husband and I hired Cowbridge based on their good reviews to re-upholster our beautiful 30 year old couch and 2 armchairs. My in-laws brought the set from CA when they moved here since it has sentimental value for them. We told Scott and Lisa that we wanted to change the entire cushions and base paddings and replace them with new ones. We also took them cushions for our bay window and asked that they change the cushion and sew new fabric over it. They gave us a price for everything and we agreed. We provided the fabric. They offered to buy a matching gimp cord as well to go on the edges of the sofa and armchairs and we trusted that they would find something nice to match. Now fast forward to the pick up time after about 6 weeks... We went to pick up the furniture and what a horrible job they did! Instead of the gimp which Lisa was supposed to pick for us and we would pay extra, they presumptuously decided that it was OK to use the same fabric and make what looked like gimp out of it. When I asked why they didn't put matching gimp she replied "there was nothing matching". What a lie, because afterwards I went to the fabric store and within 5 minutes found a beautiful gimp cord. And why didn't we get a phone call to let us know that they were going to make gimp out of the same fabric? What made them think it was okay to use the same fabric? No idea. Needless to say threads were hanging everywhere on the fabric, the original fabric was showing underneath the new one which let us know that they didn't change the padding, the nail heads were placed unevenly, the fabric was loose on the back of one of the armchairs and some more imperfections. The cushions on the bay window were not changed, they used the same ones and put fabric over it and charged us whopping $200 and said "that's our price, we're only charging you what they charged us". What dishonesty. Does it get any worse than this? It didn't take a professional to see all of the imperfections on the reupholstery. And to our questions as to why the cushions weren't all changed their answer was " it is to OUR discretion as to what needs to be changed". So why did we pay you if it was your discretion? We clearly told you what we wanted on OUR furniture and all they had to do was fulfill our wishes especially when it cost us several thousand including the fabric. Long story short, we expressed our displeasure in the horrible job that was done, they said they would have their guy fix it and it took over 4 MONTHS and that's after OUR repeated calls and texts to which they hardly responded. And when they would respond they included a fake Attorney's e-mail address to threaten us. LOL, makes me laugh because only a person who's afraid himself of wrongdoing and dishonesty would do such a thing. And every time I replied back to the emails, always received a "failure delivery" for the "Attorney". What a shame! What a waste of our energy and time. I have posted some pictures on "Yelp" as proof and will also post some on Google later. Also, I have proof of correspondence between us, proof of the fake attorney's email included in the emails as well as proof that they wouldn't respond to us on many occasions. We would absolutely NOT RECOMMEND this company to anyone. We will take them to court to recover our money for the UNCHANGED bay window cushions (btw the guy that does their upholstery told us he never changed them, we didn't even know that originally) as well as recover the money that they charged us and never changed the cushions on the sofas and armchairs. We tried to reconcile with them and directly deal with them but they haven't even replied back to my last 2 emails. This was my...
Read moreBoy, am I glad I went to THIS place to get my chair cushion reupholstered! Lisa and Scott are lovely people, really passionate about their work, and their store is amazing! Everywhere I looked there was something interesting to see. They even have a door greeter--their cat Gracie was right there as soon as I opened it. Being a cat person, she quickly stole my heart. I had not purchased any fabric yet, so they took me to a back room filled with left over material from other jobs. We got to looking, and Scott pulled out a striking piece of black and white fabric with sort of a mythical cat figure on it--very Indonesian looking. There was just enough material for both the chair and a throw pillow. It was Lisa's and Scott's bright idea to give the pillow a negative/ positive effect, with the cat on a black background on one side, and on a white background on the other. There's a zipper in the pillow in case I need to remove it for cleaning, and the piping around the edge is thick and sturdy. The chair is so striking, and the workmanship is excellent! The under part of the cushion has been completely covered, so I can't see any of the fixings used to put it together. My living room is all neutral except for some dark wood pieces and 2 dark wood built-in bookcases, so the black and white chair and throw pillow fit in nicely with the rest of the decor. They certainly have some master crafts people working for them! ...
Read moreI have purchased several pieces from Cowbridge. Each piece is classic, stylish and has it's own unique personality. My guest always comment that they look like something in a magazine.
In my opinion, this is more of lifestyle boutique. The pieces are to compliment the home and lifestyle of those who want something of high quality and is different without being trendy. I, often, like to go in just to look around for inspiration. I have even shot a few games of pool while doing so. They have a pool table. Lol
I've used the word "pieces" to describe the furniture because you won't find many matching "sets" if at all. I can't remember seeing any. That's what makes this place so great. It's not cookie cutter looks that everyone else will have. You can customize the look, feel and comfort of your home with items from all over the world. You can have something that will definitely add to the conversation when you do have guest...in a good way. Moreover you'll have something that you'll be proud of and will last, in style and use, for many years to come.
Everyone there are always knowledgeable and helpful, especially Scott, the owner. He takes a lot of pride in each piece. Its evident that he loves this. I think it's just an extension of himself. There's nothing that he wouldn't have in...
