My name is Ben Dilgard. I am the father of Keris (Dilgard) Riebel. My daughter was attacked from behind while cashiering for Dollar Tree and lost her life. We found out that DT was aware that leaving their cashiers' backs open to the public was putting them in violent situations. If DT had Kerisâ back against the wall, she would have seen this man coming towards her and easily escaped, or better yet, he probably wouldn't have tried it. The standard practice in America is to have a cashiers back against the wall. Usually, the only time you don't see this system is in big-box stores, which have a lot of employees and customers and not a quick entrance/ exit. Dollar stores are at a high risk of crime due to low staffing and quick entrance/ exit, among other factors. Knowing this, why would DT use a system that would increase the chances of their cashiers being involved in a violent situation? If DT would move their existing system against the wall, it would not only protect the cashier but would prevent a customer from being involved in a violent situation like the girls my daughter was waiting on that night. I wrote DT two separate times explaining how hard things are for Kerisâ family and also how easy it would have been to save her life and protect future cashiers. DT chose to ignore her family and move forward opening new stores with the same unsafe layout leaving the cashers unprotected with their back exposed to the public. The current CEO was the COO for DT when my daughter lost her life. As CEO, what does he do to protect his cashiers? Puts DTâs in old Party City locations (a company that had their cashiers backs against the wall) removes their counter system and puts in the same system that allowed that man to walk right up behind Keris and take her life. I would like everyone to take a minute and Google robberies and attacks that have taken place in DT. Every one of these violent acts is on their security footage. They can see the cashiers face, fear in their eyes wondering if they will ever see their family again and if you can call them lucky, the ones that walked away from their attacker. In my daughterâs case, they watched her take her last breath. We call the men who commit these crimes evil, and they are. But what do we call the man running this company who could easily prevent it but chooses not to? I have given DT time to make changes so as to not draw attention to this dangerous situation. Regarding safety, a cash register could easily serve two functions. The first is ringing out a customer and the second is providing a barrier between the employee and the customer/ possible criminal. DT system rings out customers and encourages them to walk directly behind the cashier with their impulse items. The cashier is accustomed to customers walking right up behind them, so they don't pay attention, nor can they when they are waiting on a customer. If it is a criminal, there is nothing they can do. I told DT I have spoken with engineers regarding this, and they have said, if DT would ask these simple questionsâŚHow did this happen? How can we prevent it from happening again? The logical answer would be to put the cashier against the wall, so they have a customer free work area. Dollar Tree, I would like you to reply to this one simple question: because of what you allowed to happen to Keris and how you treated her family, what is this major safety reason you canât put your cashiers back against the wall like the overwhelming majority of American companies? I think your cashiers, customers and investors need to know; there is far too much information to tell the whole story here. We are working on a website that will have all the information on it. If you would like this information sooner, reach out to me on the Kind Like Keris Facebook page and I can email you. Violence against women should never be accepted, not only is Dollar Tree accepting it, they are giving violent criminals the opportunity to...
Read moreBUYER BEWARE!!!! I used to shop at this Dollar Tree quite regularly. I even one time chased a shoplifter for blocks down the street with the police on my cell phone and helped them catch the guy whom exited the store with four garbage bags full of stuff. The staff and the management know me ever since then. Which is why I was so surprised when the following happened to me.. I was shopping at the store with my friend and I had finished my shopping and went calling us an Uber. The Uber showed up much quicker than expected, so I had to run into the store to get my friend. As I ran in, the manager of the store was at a register and she said I can leave my bags with her there since the register was closed. I didn't see any harm in it and I did as I was told. I ran in and got my friend and as I came out and passed that register again I found that they had opened it for business and they were ringing up customers at the very same register where my bags were but nobody had bothered to move my bags out of people's reach. I was bothered by this, but since the Uber was outside honking, I grabbed my bags and rushed out the door. The minute I arrived at my house I realized that I was missing items from my bags and I immediately called the store. To my surprise they were very standoffish and offered me no resolution, no offer to let me come in and pick up the Lost items or anything else. I pointed out to them that I had the receipt and they could care less. I was so bothered that I immediately started calling the company. After a long wait through a Byzantine labyrinth of teleprompts and automated recordings I finally got an operator. To my horror, the woman was not only rude to me but she literally hung up on me. She repeatedly hung up on me every time I called after that. My attempt to reach the company directly through their form online turned out to be pointless and a total waste of time. After weeks of repeated attempts I began researching the company contact and portfolio and I reached out directly to the CEOs and the secretary of the board behind that company and to my horror they all ignored my emails as well. After several weeks of being ignored by everybody in this company I filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Protection and to my shock they completely ignored every attempt to make contact by those entities as well. These people do not care about ethics or morality or customer service or customer base and they have no respect for their clientele or their regulars or anything else. I understand that items are a dollar and the cheapness comes at a price but you do not ignore and completely disregard your clients and regulars as if they were absolute trash when they are bringing to your attention something that your staff did wrong. When that store manager offered to hold my bags and said they would be safe at that register she accepted responsibility for my bags and if they were going to open that register for business they should have moved my bags to another register or put them away for safekeeping and not just left them there for everyone to get their hands into. I am very disappointed with this company overall and I think I would rather spend the extra $2 or so and go to another store where I can at least be respected by the people behind the logo and have my feelings and opinion matter to them rather than be ignored and completely pushed aside as these people very clearly have a standard practice of doing with all of their customer complaints......

Got accused of stealing from the dollar tree today lol! my boyfriend At 11:30am today on 2/14/19 bought 3 balloons and didnât notice until afterwards he got charged for 4 not including one of them Blew away as soon as he walked out the door. Came back and I went in there with him. He went to the associate Latoya (Who got him the balloons The first time around)showed her the receipt and explain what happened. She gave him two more balloons and took and kept his receipt. In the meantime I walked over to the flowers to pair arrangements together in different vases. After getting our 2 balloons he joined me. We Decided to get some things for the house as well and ended up staying for almost 2 hours due to me being a typical woman, not including having ocd trying to match everything! When we got in line, the cashier was nice, asking how are day was and I was cracking up explaining having to drag my boyfriend through the store for hours! The associate (the balloon blower upper/ the balloon donât know how to Count Dracula) is going to shout across the store as shes blowing up her balloons while we are talking to the cashier asking if we paid for those balloons. He Was trying to explain to her that those were the balloons he was given this second time around. she kept saying that he left a long time ago and that we were trying come back to steal the 2 balloons we had with us at the register. So she told the lady at the register to charge us and it was pretty much back-and-forth arguing with this âLatoyaâ from there in front of a store full of customers. We called her bluff to check the cameras And that weâll wait until she is done but as she knew by this point, with how she was talking to us, she was in way too deep. And if I was her, I wouldnât have either by that time with as far as she drug it out.
Not only talking to us The way she did making a scene for all the customers to hear/see, but at the end as we were leaving she was sarcastically saying âthank you for coming inâ , âbyeâ, âhave a nice dayâ, âbyeâ and just kept repeating it, just trying to get a reaction out of us. It was sad!
I Been in the customer service industry for 14+ years. I worked for many companies. Thereâs no company I know of that will tolerate What she pulled today. regardless if we stole, the way she handled it and tried to embarrass us Without even having proof or taken two minutes out of her day to get the proof instead trying to show off in front of customers acting like a 15 year old (but looks 5xs that) is mind-blowing. I thought the ghetto dollar tree was in the hood so Im going to go out here on a limb here like her and assume shes a transfer).
Iâve been called many things in my life but a thief was never one. We purchased 57 items. if we wanted to steal, we wouldâve stole something that wasnât out in the open like balloons in the air for the whole store to see. We had no problem paying for those two balloons that she demanded the cashier To put on our tab. the moneyâs not the issue (is she serious, its a dollar store Lol) itâs the fact of her accusing someone of something They didnt do and refuse to see the cameras that wouldâve showed how many times we came in and out that store. Whatâs right is right and whatâs wrong is wrong! Letâs see if dollar tree is going to address this! Because I am not letting...
