Stop & Shop — Local services in Cheshire

On December 12, 2024 I went shopping like I have hundreds of times. I spent a little extra time looking at teething products for my nine month old after putting two of the big cans of formula into my cart. While finishing shopping I started to notice this woman following me. I must have seem her at least 6 times throughout multiple different aisles and areas in the store. In hindsight i realized she was loss prevention and her ear buds were actually an ear piece. After starting to checkout in the self checkout aisle with the handheld scanner a uniformed stop and shop employee blocked the entrance to the aisle to watch me. When i realized i was being watched i inquired as to what was happening and i asked who thought i was stealing she kept saying "not me". My entire cart was empty and everything had been scanned. I hadn't paid yet and called the manager over. As the manager is wasting my time, giving me ridiculous excuses as to how sensitive the scale is by dropping empty bags onto it, (the alarm never sounded) the employee decided to start searching through my empty shopping bags before i ever paid for anything. This was an immense embarrassment and a violation of my privacy. When i called the store manager by phone later I actually felt a bit better like something would be done. Unfortunately when the store manager called me back she told me she didn't have access to the cameras and therefore couldn't verify if HER employee searched my bags. She also tried to gaslight me into believing that an experience I've never had out off the thousands of stop and shop trips I've taken is somehow normal. It became very clear that they simply weren't going to admit to any wrong doing. I was profiled because of what I was buying, and what I look like. Thank you Holly for going above and beyond during our call. After going to the Wallingford stop n shop location to get a specific whipped cream frosting cake I was told by the woman working at 11:30 am 2/18/25 that she had a bunch of the cakes I was looking for but no price label to ring them up. She then said she could sell me the cake only with strawberries on top. She proceeded to take out one of the cakes I wanted with a bucket of puree strawberries she was going to scoop on top. I asked her if I could just purchase it without the strawberries (even if it still cost more) or put the strawberries on the side. She told me she could not do that and that the strawberries had to go on top and she couldn't sell me it without it.... she looked at me like I was crazy for asking simply for no strawberries on it or on the side. I left and went to the meriden location where the manager told me she didn't have any available and couldn't understand why she wouldn't sell me one without strawberries when it's a option in their system. I finally called cheshire and spoke with Holly who is going out of her way to make me the cake for my friends birthday tonight. Thank you Holly for your help. I just returned to town after being away. I shopped, no one available to check out, I joined everyone else at self check out. No one available when the light went off. I waited a short time and said this is ridiculous. I just left everything at the check out probably close to $200. Ice cream, yogurt, cheese. Absolutely insane. There’s no help at this store. I tried to call the store manager and no one picked up after 6 minutes. I don’t care enough to wait longer. It’s a shame I’ve lived here for 23 years and it’s never been this bad.

I repeat 2/10/2024. 11:20a.m. shopped, no one available to check out, I tried one check out #9 the light went off with my first item, someone will be with you, no they’re no they’re still busy talking on the other side of the self checkout. I packed up my things from the belt and went to the multiple register check out. Same problem, the women were still busy chatting I waited a short time and then left everything at the check out probably close to $150 iced coffee, yogurt, cheese. Absolutely insane.
