Thursday's and Saturdays this is the place to be!
Usually they start rolling in around 530am...the official open is 7am.
Thursday's have always been less crowded. They also don't have as many vendors.
Saturday mornings are packed, however you will never have to wait to be served upon or check out.
The North Tonawanda Farmers Market is nearly 100% Niagara/Orleans and Genesee county independent family farmers.
There are a couple locals whom aren't farmers at all that buy bulk grade B (livestock feed grade produce) from local farmers and you'll figure them out real quick. Check their bushel baskets and you'll quickly see the top 4 or 5 apples etc are obviously grade A, and are intentionally done to his the 20-30 poor grade B pieces underneath...only 1 old guy does this, and again, you'll quickly figure him out.
Senek farms and all forms of fruit and vegetables, Fresh meats, beef pork and chicken, and more recently some of the farmers have stepped their game up to offer actual home made custom smoked and cured meats and sausage. Tons of artisan charcuterie-ready meats and cheeses. Fresh made dairy, berry preserves, pies, and breads of every kind...and FRESH WNY clover field honey.
They have/had a big problem with people from other areas bringing their dogs, and this is being heavily enforced now. NO DOGS. THIS IS OPEN AIR FOOD MARKET. Read moreSo many Farmers market vendors to visit and buy from, especially on Saturdays. There there on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well, just not as many vendors. You'll find plants, flowers, fruits, vegetables, greens; meat, eggs, dairy products created at local farms.Tart cherry juice concentrate. Maple syrup. Wine. Jams. Child's blueberries are a real treat at this farmers market, for limited time only. So worth it. Get your apples and peaches here. You'll find vendors who make food right on the spot for you in the form of sandwiches or donuts or pierogies. I have to admit I favor the sweet potato pie lady goodies: sweet potato pound cake and little sweet potato pies. Also the scone lady, Rachel--oh my goodness. Fig scone. The line is long. Early. She is there every other week. Gained ng in popularity: kombucha and mushroom venders. This location is one of those markets where people who get Farmers market coupons or use a state government food program they can utilize that service at this market to get fruits and vegetables from real farmers. The program usually has someone set up near the restrooms by the Green building. Pets are not allowed here, so remember to leave them home for your...
Read moreI used to love this market, but I went today and it's the last time. The prices are insane, literally more than Wegmans. Signs everywhere claiming everything is home grown when our produce isn't pickable yet. In short, somebody home grew it, but it sure as hell isn't local. I grew up with parents selling produce at farmers markets, and thus farmers markets are sacred for me, but I am finally forced to admit that it's a generational thing, and just a scam now. Instead of lower prices due to lower (or no) overhead, real, and/or "buy it from someone else and claim you're a farmer" booths are just gouging people. This is one habit I'm going to break because I won't provide patronage to fraudulently represented local produce, and pay 3 times what it costs elsewhere. What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a...
