This market is run and owned by a family of Korean immigrants. The store is meticulously clean. Staff is efficient, friendly and knowledgeable about the products that are stocked as well as their various uses. I have been coming to this grocer since it first opened when I was about 12-13 years old (I am now turning 38 the first week of November). If you become a regular customer the staff will remember you and your buying habits so that they can do their best to keep your favorites in stock. If you want something that is not stocked they will order it as long as their wholesaler is able to send it to them. They stock products of every major Asian country (Korea, Japan, China, Philippines, Thailand) that has cuisine known to epicurean tastes. There are lots of snacks and candies for people who are not so adventurous: and, they try their best to get eccentric flavor varieties that are popular among Asian pallettes (chestnut ice cream bars for ex.). They have both premade dishes and supplies to cook from scratch. They carry fresh produce at the peak of ripeness. They stock cookware, cleaning supplies, dishware, herbal remedies, and cosmetics in a limited supply but that help when making authentic cuisine at home or if you're an immigrant who knows of an Asian brand that works better than its American equivalent. They also have fresh homemade side dishes, tofu and other goodies that are supplied from the restaurant which shares the building with them. Their selection of rice, noodles, dried sea vegetables, Asian style cuts of meat, fishcakes, natto, ramen, desserts/ice creams, teas, supplies to cook Asian cuisine from scratch, and sushi grade fish is niche and well chosen by staff that eats the products so they know what they taste like. They accept Food Stamps/NYS SNAP Benefits as well. If you don't have grocery bags there are empty boxes up front you can use for free to carry your goodies home. They have shopping baskets in multiple sizes to use while you're making your selections. Staff is always happy to answer any questions you may have about their merchandise, help translate labels/cooking instructions/etc.(though it is EXTREMELY RARE that there will not be an English translation on the product). If you have young children with you the staff will help keep the child interested and occupied while you peruse if they're not too busy, and they often have small product samples for youngsters of some kind of snack. They do not accept temporary assistance cash benefits despite accepting SNAP because their machine won't process it for some reason. So, if you intend to use such stop at an ATM or grocer (Price Chopper Grocer has ATM and is only about 1/4 mile away on the same side of Erie Blvd.) before you do your shopping. They also don't have carts ..that however is due to the closely spaced aisles through the store which allows them to offer more stock/variety in such a small space (what they offer in such a small space really is mind blowing!). There is plenty of parking and the store is handicap accessible despite. There is no public bathroom in the store however the restaurant in the same building offers one without any hassle. That said, the owners (family) owns all of the buildings within the small plaza/lot as well as the occupying businesses (all of which are held to the same high standards of service, kindness, politeness, cleanliness, efficiency, epicurean taste, quality, freshness, accessibility, affordability given the high quality of overall good service and business. The other businesses related to them are Secret Garden Restaurant (easily the best/freshest Korean BBQ/Japanese cuisine in the greater Syracuse area as well as most authentic despite also offering American style {they're the only place I am aware of with a Sushi chef that trained in Japan according to their traditional standards}), Tous Les Jours French style Korean bakery chain (they have very high quality products made fresh daily from scratch, catered orders, Asian pastries and cafe/boba drinks/smoothies), and a Japanese style...
Read moreI moved here from greater Atlanta, where there is a large Korean community. This grocery store carries many products and flavors that I am homesick for.
The store is clean and well organized; they carry a large variety of Korean goods as well as pan-Asian products. I will be sure to shop here again, even though I live 40 min away!
If you are looking to try unique Korean flavors, I would recommend these two snacks: first, dried shredded squid/cuttlefish (오징어채 “o-jing-eo-chae). It is a savory snack, slightly chewy, and has a mild seafood taste with a little sweetness. Han’s market has some in the fridges; they are packaged in plastic pouches.
The second snack recommendation is “yak-gwa” (약과), a honey-flavored Korean cookie. They are pressed into traditional shapes, almost like a mooncake. They have a very nice soft texture and a slight stickiness because of the honey. I can never eat only one of these cookies at a time :)
Additional update: They are taking a lot of Covid precautions, which I appreciate greatly. The owner and employees here are working very hard to disinfect surfaces. I shop here every few weeks, and they always do...
Read moreAccidentally went here when looking for another store but we went in anyway. It looks small from the front but the aisles are deep and they actually have a big selection! Lots of different noodles, sauces, and they have some fresh veggies and a small meat cooler as well. My son loved the green tea ice cream. We got ingredients for tonkontsu ramen with miso tare and it came out amazing. Love the enoke mushrooms and yo choy. They also have the sodas with the marbles that fall in. One thing to be aware of is they don't have bags (they do provide boxes if you need them) so I'd recommend being prepared. Definitely worth checking out!!!
*Edit - changing from 5 stars to 1 as I looked at my receipt after seeing multiple reviewers mention being overcharged and there was a charge for 22 lbs of 1 vegetable at 1.99 that I never bought so I was overcharged $44 dollars and paid $180 something when my order should have been $140. The woman chats and smiles with you all while tacking mystery charges onto your receipt and hoping you won't notice. Do not go here unless you plan to add up your total and verify you aren't...
