This place profiled, targeted and discriminated against my 13yr old son and myself. Stay away do not visit this location.
In addition to my experience below GameStop as a whole, the manager, district manager, corporate office, CEO, don't respond to the complaints and or emails discussing the issue below. All contact has gone ignored.
July 10th 2024 My son upon entering this location was told he is not allowed in the store and has to leave because he was alone and needed an adult present. I was across the street in a different store when my son called me to tell me what he was told. I asked my son to put the phone on speaker so I can see what the issue was as this has never happened before.
Upon speaking with the representative he stated that lately there have been a lot of unsavory characters that have visited this location and as a result he didn't want my son in the store by himself. I asked him if this was gamestops policy? In which he replied no but rather his policy. I asked what did he mean by " unsavory characters" and if he was profiling my son based in his nationality and or appearance based on the clothes he was wearing ( he had on a hat that had said money on it, and some washable kids Halloween tattoos on his arms and face) he said he was not profiling.
I told him I am across the street and will be there in a few minutes.
When I arrived before I can figure out who the rep was , and when I signed my son the rep who identified himself to me as " Joe " said loudly as I was walking through the door " NO ,NO,NO, I AM NOT DEALING WITH THIS BOTH YOU AND YOUR SON NEED TO GET OUT AND ARE NOT ALLOWED IN MY STORE".
I was shocked at this because all I did was enter the store and never said anything at this point because I didn't know who the worker was and was coming into to the store to go to my son and find out what the issue was with the worker.
The worker proceeded to tell me that if I don't leave the store with my son he will call the cops on and charge me with trespassing.
This was something that was extremely shocking, embarrassing, and out of nowhere.
I told the worker Joe why was he was doing this and that I wasn't going to leave but would like to wait for the policy myself to file a complaint. Joe said we need to get out as he felt unsafe. Joe did indeed call the police on both my son and myself.
My son and I have visited many gamestops over the years in Westchester,Yonkers, Bronx, New York city, brooklyn, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Queens, etc and never once have we ever experienced this horrible encounter. And never once has my son ever been told that he cannot shop in a GameStop location by himself and needed an adults presence especially a paying customer in a store that is geared towards kids that has video games, and toys, and posters, and many different items geared towards kids.
Never have I ever been subjected to this treatment as a patron entering into a store being told that I am not allowed in the store and I was kicked out especially as an adult and a paying customer.
Both my son and myself was most certainly targeted by this...

I parked at this GameStop at 21:10. It was raining and unusually chilly, breaking the summer's trend. On approaching the entrance, a young man of approximately 30 years of age wearing a U.S. Air Force jacket/windbreaker was attempting to communicate through the glass door. Two women looked up, noticed him, and then looked away oafishly with smarmy grins as they tended to what appeared to be tasks to close up shop for the evening.
A man came to the door from within, initiating an exchange through the glass. Keeping my distance at ten yards and without intervening, I listened to the man outside, being rained on, explaining to the man inside that he had driven a long way and that he believed the store should still be open at ten after nine for the promised release of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. He said he was sent down from Cortland Manor as they had run out of copies. This was, at the time, an unverifiable claim.
The man inside did not open the door. Without explicitly hearing his contribution to the conversation, it was clear through body language that the store would no longer be open for business this evening. The man in the Air Force jacket reacted aggressively and cursed through the glass but caused no physical damage. At this point, I took my leave.
Knowing nothing about the man in the windbreaker, and assuming nothing about him; with only information from the interaction - he reacted poorly. On the store's behalf, GameStop's only competitive advantage in today's growing digital sphere is customer service and client relationships. It is the only reason I shop there as opposed to more conveniently downloading products straight to my console. I enjoy the human interactions, the short and lively conversations that ensue regarding gaming and other related topics.
GameStop's CFO Jim Bell said GameStop closed 195 stores since last year and is on track to close 180 - 200 more stores by the end of this fiscal year (USA Today). In the past, I have had great experiences at GameStop stores in several locations and have met wonderful employees. I have filled out employee surveys on receipts and given those individuals high marks. Tonight, the intentional or unintentional apathy of the staff on shift left a bad taste in my mouth.
Considering the weather, the driving distance for myself and this unidentified potential U.S. serviceman, and the loyalty of lifelong customers in a debilitated retail market; it could be said that closing up shop on pre-order night at ten after nine was unwarranted.
I will retrieve my pre-order on another day, which is no trouble. I do not see myself pre-ordering from GameStop again and expect to warm up to the idea of digitally downloading content from home. The consideration for what matters, human interaction and doing the right thing (supporting your local store(s) and treating your customers with care) is seemingly of less value as time goes on. The support or indifference...
Read moreThe definition of Professionalism is the competence or skill expected of a professional.....
But let me remind you that not only that is the definition but the entirety of Gamestop Prestige address: 2347 Central Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10710 is the TRUE DEFINITION OF PROFESSIONALISM. I visited the store (Tuesday July 24th, 2018 at 7:15pm-ish) filled with depression and doubts (due to having a terrible, horrible month). My intention was to trade in my iPad 2nd Gen tablet to have some change for the week (since my current job at AVIS BUDGET isn’t properly paying me what I’m owed after finding out new information that wasn’t shared with me). I desperately needed the cash since at that time I barely eaten at all. So I walked into the store and I was professionally greeted by Tiffany the manager (while helping another family at the time!) now that is the skills of a “true multitasking master”. I waited until she was done. Then I was up next. She was extremely friendly (even towards the family before me) and asked what brought me into the store today. I told her why I wanted to trade in my iPad, then afterwards...this is the best part..... but a first a quick side note.... (you’re running a huge business (under the ultimate true industry ) which brings people of all ages and background. You’re going to need people who truly love the video game industry so that it continue to do what games are MEANT TO DO. What the late great Ralph Baer wanted.. bring people TOGETHER PEACEFULLY. As aspiring Game Designer (who was stuck in a long write block due to just being deep dark depression about a lot going on in my life) my fire and passion for video games ignited to the MAX once again. It never burnt out) the reason why I’m saying this is because people like Tiffany is the reason why I’m feeling what I am today, right NOW and forever. Her professionalism her knowledge, her entire existence made my experience at GameStop and extremely positive one. I am grateful for seriously what she’s done. For me and my life.
Back then I stated the definition of professionalism. Her skills isn’t only just customer service, her work ethics and administrative...
