Society Boutique — Local services in Clarkston

I had high hopes when I walked into Society Boutique to find a couple of outfits for a church conference. After trying on two pieces I really loved, I stepped out of the fitting room and was met with an incredibly off-putting comment from the owner herself. Instead of asking if I needed assistance or if I was ready to purchase, she told me “I’ll hang those back up for you,” with a tone and body language that made it very clear she assumed I couldn’t afford them.

I’m 28, and maybe I looked too young to be spending money in her eyes, but that’s no excuse for such a condescending attitude — especially coming from someone who should be encouraging purchases, not discouraging them. To make it worse, she openly told me the designer items in the store weren’t authentic and explained where she sourced them — a surprising and tacky thing to admit to a customer.

Despite the rudeness, I went ahead and bought both items anyway, mostly to prove a point. Unfortunately, that was another mistake — the $80 pants I purchased started pilling after just FOUR hours of wear. That’s not the quality I expected for the price.

I was genuinely planning on becoming a regular customer and supporting a local business, but after this experience, I’ll never return. A store’s success starts with the way people are treated, and if the owner can’t even manage basic respect, especially toward someone who walked in ready to spend money, that’s a huge red flag.

Disappointed doesn’t even begin...

A must visit, small family owned business. The space is bright, open and welcoming. The staff blew me away - incredibly kind, helpful and informative. I left feeling happier than when I walked in because of their energy!

I love their selection because I find unique pieces that still fit into a capsule wardrobe! I noticed they also support local small businesses which shows they foster community.
