When you can leave an honest, glowing review for a person you’ve known half your life, it is a blessing. I’ve known the owner / proprietor Amanda since we were classmates in graduate school. I had the pleasure of visiting Dee Dee’s, and becoming a customer, for the first time in October of 2023 during a trip back to Michigan.

That Dee Dee’s is a charming vintage / antique business is self-evident. But seeing and understanding that this business is a place of warmth, stories, attention, preservation, and creativity brought me a greater understanding of what Dee Dee’s truly is. Amanda knows the stories that each piece in her business has lived. She knows who loved them and what part they played in the families of the prior owners. More than just a place to find vintage items, Dee Dee’s is a place that connects the lives of those that came before to those they never met. Even the building that houses Dee Dee’s knows Amanda’s love and dedication, with generations of the family that grew up there sharing with her their stories of times gone by within its walls. Dee Dee’s is a bridge from old stories to new ones.

The care Amanda shows for the pieces in Dee Dee’s is extraordinary. With some, she rehabilitates intergenerational items on-site, giving them new life and sometimes a new personality. With other pieces, they just need to be seen as they are and have always been. The variety and uniqueness of the multitude of pieces in Dee Dee’s is breathtaking and makes for an entertaining visit. It is quite likely that you’ll want to leave with more than you expected. But expect to fall in love with what you find and know that you are part of that piece’s (or those pieces’) journey.

I adore this sweet little shop, its owner and the other staff I have encountered in the store! Last year I stopped in to purchase vintage glassware for a couple of upcoming weddings - the woman who helped me (sorry, bad name recall on my part!) was so helpful in walking me through the options and even wrote out a nice card describing the history of the glassware to include with the gifts. I also recently decided to refinish a dresser with no prior experience- Amanda took a lot of time to help me pick out the type and color of paint to use and patiently answered all of my many questions! Amanda has created an oasis of calm and beauty in a charming historic bungalow. She is a friendly and gracious hostess and a thoughtful caretaker of both the home/shop and the items she refinishes and sells. Her shop has a wide variety of items with something for everyone. Her furntiture restorations are done with deep care and respect for the history of the piece. There were many other treasures (including furniture pieces) I would have liked to purchase, but there was no way to take them with me on the flight home!
