My boyfriend and I walked in on a Sat night at 7:30- old blonde lady hostess looked super shocked and surprised when I said I wanted to put my name on waiting list. She said we’d be seated around 8:15 and the wait would be “at leasttttttttt (her dramatic words) 45 mins” She said I would get a text around that time when our table was available. My bf and I walk to Mojave for a margarita and sit at the bar (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE BTW) and wait for a text. 8:05 rolls around we’re long done with our drink, we decide to go back to Three Cats to wait. We walk in, 4 tables are seated. The rest, dead empty. Staff standing around, empty. I open the doors and old blonde lady hostess looked like a deer in headlights when she saw me, no joke. She immediately stood up, took her glasses off and said “oh I just texted you! I just did the thing!” I remember word for word because of the odd phrasing. And all I did was look around at the empty restaurant, and looked down at my phone with no text notifications from Three Cats. My bf and I debated leaving because we felt this establishment didn’t want/deserve our money already. But stayed. Our waitress was so sweet and kind and it is not her fault the kitchen was out of every food item that started with an ‘S’ and all seafood beyond that. Crazy. I blame the old blonde hostess lady for insinuating it’d be a long wait for a table in the first place, hence us leaving to kill time with a drink elsewhere. I ended up eating not what I wanted from a very limited menu, and it just wasn’t good. Once I had to use the restroom I unknowingly opened the door to a one toilet unisex bathroom where an older gentleman was. The exchange was a mistake and very polite. However this gentleman did not raise the toilet seat when he used the restroom, leaving the whole toilet unable and disgusting for a woman like myself to use. This experience, technically out of the restaurants hands (though they did opt for a unisex bathroom), sent me over the edge. I will never be back and will tell this story repeatedly. Again, I loved our waitress, very sweet. And...
Read moreMy family hails from Virginia, but we're currently enjoying some time in Detroit! We had planned to check out another restaurant, but when we saw the long line and how cramped it was, we decided to switch things up. Our family of four was getting pretty hangry, so I quickly searched for nearby food and, to our surprise, discovered an even better spot!
Three Cats is such a unique place! It's a transformed old movie theater that beautifully combines mid-century modern design with eclectic charm. From the fun, hand-stamped menus to the stunning logo that cleverly uses negative space, everything about it was just delightful. The atmosphere was so inviting!
As someone with a mobility disability, I really appreciated how kind and accommodating everyone was. To my surprise, the entire space was wheelchair accessible! There was plenty of room between tables, and it was easy to move around with a walker or have a service animal curl up beside us. The staff was wonderfully respectful of my family's various needs, ensuring everyone felt welcome and well taken care of.
Our waitress, SJ (Sarah Jane), was an absolute gem! I can't recommend her enough! Her passion for the menu and the genuine excitement she brought to our discussions about the food, ambiance, and service made our experience even better. She was so knowledgeable, sharing backstories and giving us a behind-the-scenes look at how the dishes were prepared. Plus, she had fantastic recommendations when we were having trouble deciding what to order.
Some of our favorite dishes included the mushroom soup, quiche, double chocolate muffin, chicken and waffles, and the delightful cattail mocktails called The Nancy Drew. Everything was...
Read moreHad to leave a new review because SO saddened at the change in the new menu, for brunch at least! We use to frequent here every Sunday after church, loved it. We haven't gone since the most recent menu change & I held a small brunch event there today. The food was a bit embarrassing, especially for $14. The "Eggs your way" use to be my go to; with Poached eggs, that tasted SO fresh, delicious bacon and flavorful hash with normal and sweet potatoes that had a wonderful seasoning. Now....this is what you get. Small cube potatoes, no seasoning, bland and reminded me of a smaller version of Dennys breakfast taste and value....(pic shown) my sister got scrambled, which I did not, but I was so embarrassed, after talking up to all the ladies Three Cats amazing brunch. Their bagel use to be my favorite (also talked this up) and it tasted a bit off as well, and the boursin cheese was less quantity, and not the same texture....a couple other dishes looked good but the soufflés were all burnt (3 people got them) and only 3 dishes (French toast, flat bread Avocado toast & kids pancakes) had "good" feedback. Super disappointing to say the least! You might think, "it's a basic dish, who cares" well if you had the chefs original, before things changed, you'd agree, it wasn't basic & was something I craved!
Service on the other hand was a 10/10, even thought they messed up my order, they're always SO on top of their game there. Thoughout all the parties I've held there & decadent dinners we've been served over the years. Just so sad that things changed and hope they swiftly go back. Inflation is understandable, but not when you take away the quality of your products. Hope it goes...
