I would like to provide some constructive criticism. With that said, I absolutely loved the atmosphere of this candy store. Their color coordinated displays really shows the attention to detail the employees take in their work. Although I probably won’t go back unless they take their customers into consideration.
The prepackaged candy from the bulk area is such a great idea, but it inhibits the ability to try different candies. Which is why those bulk candies stores are so great. Is there a way to provide both to customers? Prepackaged and the ability to get your own candy? I understand if there isn’t but if there is, maybe do it. I would also like to know if you’re packaging the candy, not for the sanity of it, but instead to keep it from going stale?
While I was there a group of Gen Z girls came in looking for candy that had obviously been tending on social media. The candy there (minus the freeze dried candy) is pretty generic, a little too generic. Might want to take a look into hiring a volunteer or a marketing intern to research social media trends. They did not have the candy she was looking for. Most of the recent reviews state that the selection was very limited, so I know I’m not the minority. It would be a real shame if such a cool candy stored closed because they were too stubborn to “get with the times”. Maybe even hire after school help and ask for suggestions. Getting any new blood working there would be extremely beneficial. Both ladies working were 70+.
This one ties into #2 - expand your candy selection to include more worldly candy. The store is very much geared to children and older folks and it shows. When we were there only Gen Z and Millennials came in. Half the store is soda, and honestly it’s way too extreme. That was a trend when Jones Soda was around in the early aughts, there is absolutely no need to have half the store dedicated to this. You could easily set up little displays with candies from different countries.
All in all it’s a very cool store but there needs to be some updating. I’m not even saying to update the inside, that didn’t even bother me. This shouldn’t be too difficult to change. It’s obvious that there are many customers who feel the same. With that said though, I have no need to go back. All the candy is generic and can be found elsewhere and the “unique” candy was meh. I live close to a snack store (geared towards adults who like the green - ngl that’s why I wanted to try Doc Sweets’ in the first place) and they have a way better selection than this place and it’s about a...
Read moreThey might as well call this place "Candy Heaven" because for kids, it is just that. Although candies are found everywhere you go, this place still has quite few items that aren't easily found. Also the experience for kids to have their small carts and to shop around and dispense their jelly beans and M&M of their liking is priceless. The are two reasons I gave it 4 and not 5 stars. First due to the somewhat "cold" staff (and this short of saying non-friendly), which is a shame for a place that caters exclusively for kids. The second is for their policy of not accepting credit card payments for transactions that are less than $5. We rarely walk out of there without a larger purchase, but one time we had to buy more than what we wanted so we can pay by card. Another incident: my kid once dispensed a larger amount of jelly bean from a dispenser, I went to the cashier and asked if we are obligated to buy them all, they insisted that we do. It wasn't the cost, and the amount wasn't outrageous, I ended up paying for it. It is just for the principle of it that I am dissappointed. Overflowing beans get collected by the tray under the grill below the dispensers and I doubt they get...
Read moreI like that store, I really do and my son too. Unfortunately I won't be back as the staff was super rude. My son changed his mind about his bag of jelly beans so I asked at the cashier if I could leave it obviously feeling bad about it(and we had many other candies). Cashier asked another woman working there (manager maybe who knows) wow that woman made a face...I was shocked. A few minutes earlier she was talking to my son being all nice and after that bag of jelly beans man it was day and night. She got really annoyed and put the bag on the counter. I felt bad and started to get mad. I told her well I'll buy the bag, completely ignored me. Said it a second time, ignored me again. I told the cashier that I was gonna buy that bag of beans. After I paid, I made sure to go see this woman and told her what I think. She could barely look at me in the eyes. So unprofessional, didn't think a little bag of jelly beans could create that much drama. So...
