Great Lakes Ace — Local services in Clawson

This used to be my favorite place to go. I've been coming here since I was a kid, when it was ACO. I'm so disappointed after today that I won't be returning. As much as I don't like supporting big stores, I'll be using Home Depot exclusively from now on.

Today I came in for paint. I was set to buy 4 gallons. I picked up some swatches yesterday, took them home (about 50 of them) knowing what I wanted ahead of time and got the perfect colors, just the wrong brand. So I came back in today to color match with Valspar. Was almost done color matching (found perfect matches to ALL of my colors) when Paint Guy comes up and mansplains to me about checking the colors against my walls at home. I explained that I did, he rolls his eyes and walks away. I go to check paint prices, and overhear him on the next isle complaining to a co-worker about me, and how disappointed I'm going to be for not taking them home first. Not only am I an experienced painter, but I also have quite a bit of common sense. I wasn't going to blindly come in and buy paint in the hopes of returning it when I didn't like it.

My husband had the same experience with the same guy last week when he went in to get a socket (second one that day). The guy asked if he could help my husband find anything and my husband explained that he knew exactly where they were. The guy got an attitude, and let him know that he would have made his life so much easier had he let him help. But "whatever, find it yourself". Absolutely obnoxious.

As convenient as this store is, and for how often we go there, it's disappointing to know that we will have to drive far just to have a better experience. You guys lost a lot of business today, and...

This is MY Ace Hardware. I have been shopping here FOREVER. When I have something I need to get done, I can ALWAYS count on the manager and workers in THIS STORE to give me quick, accurate, courteous and professional support for whatever I need to accomplish around my home. Lately, with this pandemic, I have been particularly impressed and grateful to these individuals. I am a senior citizen and work for a school in the special ed department. I have been working from home trying to support my class with innovative learning and morale boosting. The manger here (Jeff) has gone out of his way twice now during COVID to help me put together and purchase items for projects to teach and uplift my students. Jeff worked quickly with me, both in the store and over the phone, to brainstorm on solutions to implement my ideas. He suggested items I needed, put my purchase together and got me in and out of the store as safely and easily as possible. He has gone out of his way to be kind, flexible and supportive. I could not ASK for better service and consideration. I've always been a loyal customer to this store, but now want to "advertise" for them......YOU NEED to try this store out. They are GREAT...

I went to Ace Hardware in Clawson today with my girlfriend and we are doing some house work because we live in the area but when we got to the door of the store they told me only one of us could enter the store and the other stay out. All while they continue to let other people behind me in. Their excuse was to “minimize foot traffic” but what is the difference of letting the 5 others behind me go in but She has to stay outside while I shop the entire time. Very disappointed and angry with this sad excuse they hold here. Wont be coming back, do yourself a favor and save...
