This place is def a blast from the past, no doubt. The nostalgia is oozing from every corner of this place and it makes anyone who loves records want to come back. The couple who own the store are very friendly and helpful. As much as I’d love to give this store all 5 stars, unfortunately I have to knock it down one star due to their pricing. Most people who run into this place not really having purchased a record before might think they are decently priced, however being a long time record collector and visiting numerous record stores on a weekly basis, I must admit that their pricing is way over inflated. Even the beater records that you find everywhere for $5 or less are roughly $10+. Don’t expect to spend anything less than $15 for one album here. Also, cash only. I don’t think the owners have a full grasp or understanding on the grading and pricing scale and seem to only go off the highest priced mint copies off of Discogs for their pricing. Kind of a disappointment as they do have many good selections. But I’m def not paying $20+ for Crosby...
Read moreIn 1987, when I was 14 years old, I rode my bike from Fort Lee to Music Country in Cliffside Park to buy Andy Summers' debut solo album, XYZ, on cassette tape. When I asked the gentleman at the counter for the album, he first gave me a copy of a cassette tape by a band named XYZ before finally giving me XYZ by Andy Summers. A memory I will never forget. I assume the gentleman was William Demarest. I am posting this today because I just heard of the passing of owner Joan Demarest and wanted to express my condolences. Music Country is a local and apparently a national icon. I now pass by Music Country often to visit the mausoleum that contains my family, all of whom were taken care of by the same funeral home, which is near Music Country, that is taking care of Mrs. Demarest. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Demarest, for making Music Country a staple for visitors and customers both...
Read morethere's nothing not to love about this place. the owners are so friendly and so knowledgeable and willing to help. i drop by all the time even if i don't have money to spend just to pass some time with them and be surrounded by the atmosphere of records, CDs, tapes, posters, t-shirts, lapel pins... all things music! they have a very extensive collection and an awesome sales bin outside, and if there's something you need that they don't have, they're happy to order it for you. i had an issue with my turntable and they let me bring it in and spent about 20 minutes of their time looking at it and helping me identify the problem — didn't even charge me for the consultation. love, love, love this store and will be back...
