I am so glad the power of the pen is still alive and thriving. I just returned to Maryland after being away for awhile and needed to find a new stylist for my natural hair. After researching a bit I found Salon Rolls. Based on the reviews I decided to give her a try. During the initial phone consult, I asked for brown hair color (dyed from my natural virgin black) and a silk wrap. I knew my hair was damaged & needed a trim (I am in the military and just returned recently from overseas; working 12+ hours shifts daily for over 6 months I definitely neglected my hair, if not for the sake of protecting our country). When I arrived to the salon Ro attested to the same fact that my hair was damaged, thin & needed a trim/cut. But the way she expounded about the health of my hair was very unprofessional, embarrassing and, quite frankly, downright ghetto, especially considering there was another client in the shop at the same time, within hearing distance.
I proceeded to ask Ro, with her professional expertise, should I continue with the color, you know, since it's so "damaged." She said yes. But she told me that she thought highlights would be better. I agreed. But remember I said I wanted a brown color. The color that I received (see pictures) was not brown. It was more of a gold color...not what I asked for at all. Fast-forward to the "silk press." While Ro was flat ironing my hair, I heard (crackling sounds), smelled and saw smoke coming from my hair. She claimed it was the blue pomade she was using. Uhmmm ok....I don't think that was good for my "damaged" hair either. Ro then proceeded to tell me that I didn't need the last portion of the silk wrap, which is the saran wrap and going under the dryer for ten minutes. Uhmmm ok....that's the part that seals in moisture if I'm not mistaken.
Two days later I noticed that my hair was very dry and the left, front portion was frizzy and fried. I texted the picture to Ro to ask what could I do to help treat this over-processed area. Mind you, this was the only area on my hair that looked this way. Ro immediately called me and became very defensive. She says, verbatim, "Your hair was already damaged when you came to the shop" and that "the damage is only showing more because of the new, lighter color." I asked if my hair was already damaged then why did you place color in it (after I had asked beforehand if I should or not). She said I was "overthinking the entire situation" and that I should just "put some oil in it and slick it down." Wow. She had just contradicted herself and didn't even realize it. (My hair was damaged, but yea color is okay....based on her expertise)
To be very clear, I never asked for any of my money ($115) back or anything of the sorts. I just wanted to know how I could fix the situation. I sent the pictures to my old stylists in Little Rock and Atlanta and they all agreed that, yes indeed, it looked over-processed.
I will say that the salon is very clean and Ro is a fast worker. However, I have since deleted Salon Rolls contact information. I will not return, nor will I recommend. Business cards are in...
Read moreI was referred to Salon Rolls and didnât even get to the point of actually having an appointment. To me, customer service is everything and my initial experience was horrible.
I was attempting to make an appointment online for my 2 daughters. On the first screen, it asks for the style and then prompts you for your personal information and comments. I made 1 mistake in choosing the wrong style and then putting something different in the comments. The stylist immediately called me back, didnât even introduce herself but chastised me for the mistake. I was attempting to explain the mistake and she repeatedly talked over me, and told me she didnât even have time for box braids because of what was happening in her shopâeven though she shows as having an available appointment for it. How am I supposed to know what is happening in your shop?
All in all, she seems as if she doesnât want new customers. I was prepared to give her some repeat business because sheâs in our area, and my daughters always want braided styles. But after her poor service just on the phoneâshe would never get my business. I would rather drive a considerable distance for...
Read moreI must say I was decieved my hair looked nice when I got it done (retwist Sista locs, updo) but when I took my hair down the end of each twist (my hair!) was double tied in a knot!!!! I'm assuming she was attempting to keep the locs up in place. She lost a customer for sure, that's why it's hard for women to entrust just anyone with their hair who claims to know how to do all styles, sad to say she really doesn't. I had to use a metal finger nail file to undo 5 actual rather large dread-knots. THANKFULLY I was able to get all the knots out with minimal breakage to my dreads but I am upset that my hair was tied on knots in the first place and I had no idea what she...
