This store had a great selection, you can find almost anything that you want and need. Great selection of blenders as well as novelties. Everything was nice and clean, clearly marked arrows for traffic flow. If you’re getting cuts of fabric go up in size! They do use scissors to cut so once you square up your fabric you may need a few extra inches to get what you need. The ONLY reason why I gave it three stars was the checkout process. I understand that most shops will do some sort of newsletter or keep records for future purposes. In order to use a credit card to cash out for a purchase under $35, they wanted all of my personal information and told me that they cannot process the card without it. If my fabric wasn’t already cut, I would’ve walked out empty handed from an hours drive. The cashier did not know that I worked in a quilt shop for over five years and have been in so many retail positions required to process cards. You do not need all of that information “just in case we have a problem with your payment”, only online/phone orders. Even asking to check out as a guest, she said she can’t and continued to ask for my information after I did not want to supply her with my street address she got irritated. Very unlikely I will return. Such a bummer, I was told such great things...
Read moreBeautiful selection, great fabrics, wonderful people (most) that work there! What's the problem then? I come from RI a 45 minute trip. Come once a month because of the wonderful selection, Happen to come on a day that people wore PJs. Didn't know. Asked if I could count my long velour shirt as pj tops, the woman smiled and said "no". She said" are you signed up on the newsletter", I said didn't realize I needed to. I live too far, I just come when want to purchase quality fabric. She said"well, you couldn't have bought anything if we were closed". I thought to myself I'm not getting a courtesy 20% off either!. In my opinion, not good customer relations! I'm on a fixed income and even 2.50 would have made my New Year start off nicely. As it was I left feeling like I wanted to cry, I was so upset! Well whoever reads this, make sure you wear your jammies or whatever they require you to do to get that discount. As for me I am not going back, I doubt if any one will notice, but at least I was able to vent. The woman who waited on me wasn't wearing anything that looked like pjs either, so why are customers required to do something rediculous to...
Read moreThis local quilt shop was one of liveliest ones I have ever been to. Outside it looks like a factory with a fresh coat of paint. Inside you can tell that it was once an industrial-type building, but has been given new life as a bustling sewing center. Well organized with a floor plan that flows easily, this building contains 4 distinct areas: a quilting fabric area, a novelty, flannel and apparel section, a huge classroom area, and finally an area for thread arts and other crafts. There are at least two cutting tables that I saw. Best of all, there were actual shoppers inside, most of whom had shopping carts filled with bolts of fabric. Even more endearing is I overheard an employee helping a customer pick out fabrics for her quilt project. While I didn't purchase anything, or interact with any employees, I wish this place were closer to home. Located just outside of the main drag of Colchester, there is plenty of off-street parking, though it felt a little precarious trying to pull out on to the street. The people of eastern Connecticut are lucky to...
