This place was amazing. the food about a 4.8 /5. - to be fair and honest the only thing I didn't like was the popcorn chicken. a little greasy for me. doesn't mean you wont like it, some people may love it, just not my style. The pulled pork, brisket is the best I had in CT in a long time. had flavor, wasn't dry. and the sauces were unique. if you get anything here for food try the corn bread with the maple syrup butter. it's amazing. the customer service a 20/5 - let's talk customer service. if they keep up this behavior, they will out sell almost all restaurants in the neighboring towns. Why? I was approached by the chef, approached by the cashier, approached by a waiter and approached by the gentleman behind the bar. Maybe because it was a little slow, but they all asked how I liked it, if I needed anything and that type of customer service isn't seen that often in businesses these days. if they can keep that up in their business model to at least 90% of customers it'll go a long way. I also wasn't the only customer approached and met with this courtesy of kindness. that type of appreciation for being in their restaurant, is a model all businesses of their kind should learn from. I hope it keeps up. Highly recommend this place! edit 2/24/23 -- still just as good.

First time eating in. Excellent service, staff, and food. I was greeted at the door with 2 people politely welcoming me. Place was very clean and feels homey. Bathroom was spotless. Staff was friendly, welcoming, and had a positive attitude. Ordering food was easy and delivery of food was within a minute. The beer list had some local brews on it and made me want to sit down and enjoy the food. I got the double meat - pulled chicken and brisket, Mac and cheese, and beans. Meat was cooked correctly, great seasoning, and moist. The sides were just as good with a hefty portion, not like most BBQ places that give you a small cup as a size. They make at least 4 sauces. All were solid in different in flavor. The sriracha didn’t have enough kick for me, and then I was informed they have a ghost pepper sauce. I got it and it nailed the flavor of the pepper and not the “heat” aspect of it. Great location just off the main road that is quaint and I can see this being a great place during the winter to grab food or hang outside in the summer smelly the food cook. Well done!

All I can say is oh my God did I get lucky finding this place! It is absolutely delicious! And they’re burnt ends are the best I’ve literally ever had! I consumed an entire container sitting in my car laughing!!!😂 I ordered brisket, pulled pork, cornbread with maple butter, pickles and coleslaw along with it. I brought it home and my husband & I basically did inhalation therapy! 👊👊🤣🤣😂 Delicious is all I can say! I live down in Mystic and you can bet I’ll be driving up Route 85 anytime I want to get barbecue. And even though they are probably I think 40 minutes away it’s such a nice drive that I know I’ll do it happily! Oh and by the way I’m a great cook and make great barbecue and this stuff was just wonderful! I’m including a picture of the burnt ends! They are to die for!!!😉 by the way they do catering too!😉

Been to many smokehouses in the New England area. Not a fan and will never return to this one. After living in Mass and going to BT’s in Sturbridge for years, maybe I’m accustomed to a higher quality of smokehouse. My 2 year old daughter was disgusted by the popcorn chicken breading where the smoked chicken inside was the only edible part. This was extremely odd behavior by her. Wife tried it and was grossed out. The cornbread was insanely dry. The brisket was dry and tasted boiled. Pulled pork was stringy, tasted store bought. We ended up throwing away most of our meal. Of course, the owner was in the dining room watching us the whole time and after noticing me throwing away most of our meal, they asked how everything was in a condescending tone. I had to get out as soon as possible since I just didn’t want to hear it from her. The place was EMPTY during lunch hour which was odd as well. Every other smokehouse I’ve been to(yes, even ones in Florida) have been packed during lunch hour. Absolutely bizarre stuff going on here.

That hplaserjet Google review is right on the money. Seems like there’s some delusion here. Just because some people from a different geographical location may have liked it here, it doesn’t make it good. This place is NOT good. But hey, if you like weird dry funky meat and having the owner watch your family eat, enjoy. Seems like a good place for a Kitchen Nightmares episode.

Update: Whole family got sick. 1 star. Shame on you for giving my daughter that slop. Glad she didn’t eat much of it.

I’m convinced most of these positive reviews are fake/bought/comped...

Worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I came in to have lunch with a friend who came a few minutes later. I asked for an ice tea, waitress pointed to the cooler. I had to ask for a glass ,Ice and a straw. The waitress went into the bar. Another EE told me to go into the bar to get my glass, Ice and straw. As I’m walking outside to find a table the waitress told me I needed to leave my credit card with her first! My friend and I went back in to order. The waitress asked me to pay BEFORE we ate. The screen came up with a tip request, again BEFORE any food or service. I’m a generous tipper and gave a 20% tip. As we’re stepping back outside she hands me a buzzer and says “If I I’m not too busy I’ll bring your food out otherwise if the buzzer goes off you can came come in and pick it up yourself.” There was no one else in the restaurant and there were at lest 5 employees that I could see. The buzzer goes off and I waited a bit just to see what would happen. Nothing happened so I went in to get our lunch. The waitress was behind the counter handing me two trays to bring out by myself. She never stepped outside to check on us. I walked back in to get more napkins myself. When we were done I carried the trays back in myself. I asked her to package leftovers to take home. Still behind the counter she hands me a cardboard box “here you go”. Through this entire experience the only thing the waitress actually did for us was to put some ketchup in a small cup from behind the counter. ...

I wanted to give this a high rating I really did, yet I kinda wish I could lower food rating to 2.5 stars unfortunately. 🥺

Staff was amazing - very friendly, easy going and great to talk to The place has a great vibe inside, funny to think 25 ish years ago it was my neighbors library!

Unfortunately the food wasn't quite at the level I expected, especially after reading these reviews and talking to people I know who have eaten here.

I got their Brisket beer cheese steak (a current special) and let me tell you that it was amazing! Packed with flavor. The fries have great seasoning as well! I got sides of the smoked ghost bbq and it was a really good sauce!

The rest of the food was disappointing though. Pulled pork had been clearly in a steam warmer and had a soggy consistency, it and the sauce had decent enough flavor, but didn't seem smoked at all. The cornbread was very dry. The mac and cheese was just straight bad to me unfortunately, tasted like chemicals with a hint of cheese. My 12 year old was pretty unhappy about it. The pot salad tastes like pickles since it is very dill forward, but for me this is a win heh.... and the slaw is just too basic, akin to KFC, just veggies and mayo.

I lived in SC for a few years so maybe I'm jaded a bit? My sandwich was phenomenal, so I will be back, but I'll be more particular about what I...
