My friend was admitted for a traumatic brain injury caused by RSV and cardiac arrest. She was admitted on life support We had issues with staff and her care from the very first day. We were not given much hope from the beginning. She did improve and was able to go off life support but still sustained neurological issues we were told that she would be there for a few weeks and then hopefully would be able to be transferred to a neurological rehab center. My friend does not have insurance . The family was told today that she would be discharged to home tomorrow. EVEN though she is not able to take care of herself. She was given PT for 2 days. Shes confused and is needing 24 hour care . She is unable to walk or do any activities of daily living without assistance. Family explained there concerns that she is not safe to be home because they do not have proper equipment that she currently needs . . No hospital bed. Hoyer lift because she is not currently able to walk, w/c . Ramp or numerous other equipment that would be needed to care for her properly. Not to mention that she need around the clock care as she is confused and has been trying to get out of bed. I personally spoke with the social service director and advised her if concerns. Was met with that they could give us phone numbers of places that maybe able to supply equipment that we could pick up after she was discharged. I called the patient advocate and left message. No return call. To discharge her in her current state without having a safe environment for her to go to is UNETHICAL. Family had to take it upon themselves to find a place for her to go. She is having to go to a nursing home because they are refusing to continue to care for her . Friends and family were in the process of trying to get her help as we felt the doctor, social service and case manager were not doing their job. We had taken upon ourselves to try to get her into a neurological rehab and were still trying when being told today she would be discharged. We asked to keep her longer until we had time to get things in order and was told NO. I work in the medical field and know that she was not given proper care and was even told by other medical professionals and social service workers that It was unethical and abuse to discharge a patient when they did not have a safe environment to go to. Not to mention the fact that she now has wounds that were not there prior to admission. The saddest part is my friend is 46 years old and is a nurse herself that went above and beyond to care for her patients. So disturbing that the doctor, caseworker , patient advocate and social service staff do not have the same type of compassion for their patients as my friend did for her patients. My friend will be in a better place with caring and compassionate caregivers that are more concerned about her health and wellbeing. This is just a portion of her hospital stay. Family and friends had voiced many concerns with the staff. If you care about your friends or family, I would advise against taking them to...
Read moreThe nurse said “I don’t think it’s seizures”
Not only are seizures caused by several disorders and diseases and present differently in each person, but there different types of seizures. Why do you not think it’s a seizure? What are seizures supposed to look like when not every person shows the same physical signs of one.
I did not ask you what you think it is. You are here to take my vitals and record my symptoms and reasonings as to why I’m there. You are not qualified to diagnose me or not diagnose me with something. I do not need your unsolicited advice or opinion and especially when no tests were run. I was not even asked if I had any diseases or disorders that would cause these episodes. I suffer from psyche disorders that would cause a psychogenic non epileptic seizure but instead, it was written off as a panic attack. Not only are these not the norm for panic attacks but I am sitting here shaking, twitching, ticcing and having trouble keeping my eyes open, and having trouble using my legs. Not to mention that my hands and fingers locking up or tightening through the span of three hours in the waiting room. All of these signs are seizure activity in psychogenic seizures which can be triggered from PTSD(which my episodes start everytime I have a flashback). All of these things I am not in control of. But yet again I have been written off.
Inform your nurses they do not qualify to diagnose someone especially when tests are not ran. I do not need to be gaslit. Just because I am not showing signs of traditional seizures or actively seizing doesn’t make it not real. Here again, I know my body better than you. I want all the resources and tests exhausted before some rando tells me nothing is wrong with me.
I doubt this nurse has studied the ins and outs of psyche disorders that would cause seizures, every types of siezure and all the ways it can present in different people and I doubt she knows the importance of bedside manners.
If ya fat, a person of color and or disabled you will more likely than not be overlooked, invalidated, gaslit ect. 10/10 total ick. I do not recommend this hospital. People have always told e to steer clear of Boone and I see why. Most medical professionals continue to be unsightly and I can’t wait for that to change.
EDIT: I just found out when going to a different hospital, I was indeed having seizures. Not only that but I had fainting spells for 4 hours straight. But thanks, Boone...
Read moreI was rushed to the ER from my pain specialists' office with possible sepsis. Er staff was great. My admitting nurse (Christy, a travel nurse) was amazing. Day 2 in the step-down unit, I needed to use the bathroom as was DENIED! The shorter, dark-haired nurse I had was extremely rude! Told me " we don't do that on this floor!" You don't allow people to go to the bathroom? Then they had an older even ruder nurse come in and yell at me some more! I told them either they were getting me out of the bed or I was doing it myself! Then I was told, "PT has to evaluate you first!" Well, when you have to go... you have to go! I FINALLY was "allowed" to go use the toilet...(5 people grabbing at me!) They left me alone on the toilet, and I was so upset and felt like my basic human rights were so disrespected! I had no issues walking, I got up and walked myself back to bed! The older, mean long-haired strawberry blonde nurse with glasses came back in and was so rough helping me get my legs back in bed. I said, "I TOLD you, I could do it! All I want is to be treated like a human being!" Her response was a snippy "YEAH...YOU SURE SHOWED US!" I was to the point I was wanting to check out AMA, BUT I'm a NURSE and knew I needed to be there due to all the issues I was having. I have been a nurse for 22 YEARS! I HAVE. NEVER treated anyone like that! I was right across from the nurse's station and could hear them making rude comments and talking about me! VERY unprofessional staff! Then I was transferred to 6 South, I believe, OUTSTANDING staff! But I'm telling you...step down the unit was awful! I want to talk to someone, because someone needs to know what the staff is doing! Oh... and TOTAL lack of communication. My SpO2 kept reading my oxygen levels, dropped horrible at night, or whenever i slept. They kept saying, " You need tested for sleep apnea." I TOLD them. I have sleep apnea MULTIPLE times! They keep telling me they would have RT come with a CPAP....never did until the night before I was discharged! I asked for a fan, and I was told (by yhe step down nurse). " we don't have any! Christy (travel nurse) called CS and got me one! It's so frustrating! Update: it's been OVER a YEAR, I've called and asked to speak to someone after this happened. NO ONE has EVER called me back. No response! I wouldn't send ANYONE...
