I attended a queer event tonight with my 2 partners. We have been extremely excited all week to finally have a night around other queer people as poly lesbians, especially with all of the impending BS. So, we bought tickets to this event. Early on in the night, while my partners were dancing together towards the front, I ran to the bar to grab us drinks. All three of us are over 21, have and had our legal IDs in possession, and had the corresponding 21+ wristbands from the door to accompany. The bartender, who I could only assume was stressed during a busy night, asked me to repeat my order, so I did. Naturally, I attributed the following miscommunication to the loud music. However, upon repeating my order, she told me that she refused to serve me multiple drinks. As someone else who has also bartended, I understood the distrust and how she mightâve felt the need to see 3 IDs/ wristbands before feeling comfortable to serve 3 drinks (important to note I also look a bit young for mid 20s). I was fully prepared to go grab my partners to verify their ages with an ID. But she then asked me if I wanted a single drink instead, so I ordered a drink for myself, not wanting to start trouble or bother her further by asking anymore about multiple drinks at once. After all, my partners could just come up and buy for themselves later. However, after I ordered, she then refused to serve me because I ordered a shot. I was so confused at this point, so I repeated the shot order again, thinking maybe she just misheard my order and thought I said something outlandish? But nope. She returned with even more hostility and told me she wouldnât serve me. I truly wish I hadnât bought a ticket to the event. I donât need a drink to have a good time, and I still had a nice time dancing with my partners, but her rudeness genuinely ruined my night. We needed a night out dancing to cheer us up, where no one gave us crap. But, alas. DJ was great, thoughâLove them. Bartender with the backwards hat needs to fix their attitude asap, though....
Read moreBuilding is kind of weird. I get it's old, but the bathroom is cramped and half the seats are missing cup holders/armrests. When you sit down there is absolutely no leg space on the balcony. I've never had such a hard time sitting down in a theater chair as I did tonight. Staff did absolutely nothing to stop people from breaking the rules. There were girls two rows in front of us that were taking videos and selfies with their flash on the whole show. When my mom asked one of the waitstaff to deal with a man wearing a big COWBOY hat, all they did was briefly talk to him and leave. The man didn't even remove his huge hat and made rude comments about the people behind him after the waiter left. My mom could not see the comedian pretty much the entire show because of his hat. To make matters worse there was a lady heckling the comedian numerous times. She was yelling every couple minutes and the comedian was becoming visibly tired of it. He said several times that he was done with her yelling and yet she was allowed to continue. I feel like if there is a no heckling rule and the comedian is clearly being bothered by it, the staff should do something about it. This was my first time seeing a comedian live and I was very disappointed by the setting it was in. The comedian was amazing, but the blue note was lack luster. I'm going back tomorrow to see another comedian, and I hope the experience will be better. I had such high hopes for this place. I forgot to mention there was a seat mix up too. Two groups had the same seats, so the later arriving group sat on stools in the back of the balcony. Edit: forgot to add on to this lol 2nd show we actually had leg room so that was nice. Waitstaff worse this time. Very loud coming down the stairs and our assigned waitstaff didn't show up again after the show started. Had to hail down the one that sounded like an elephant going down the old stairs. More heckling. Pretty sure it was the same lady too, yet again the staff did nothing while the comedian got visibly and verbally...
Read moreThis is an excellent small venue with absolutely professional shows. The way it was set up over the years was very smart, it allows people to enjoy a very intimate and close performance with high-power stars. The blue note is definitely a place to go and have fun with your friends and family. The sound system is spectacular. The security is excellent. The smoothness of entry and exit is great. The soundboard is nice, and the sound guy knows what he/she is doing. The drinks are made right, and if there is any error in their composition they will Rectify it immediately. The placr is patronized by clientele that has taste, are calm and whom have fun. I definitely a recommend seeing the show that you love at the Blue Note. It is way better than driving 2 hours to be stuck in a giant stadium with music that could create an earthquake. The blue note is intimate. The blue note is what a concert hall should be like. I love it. Do yourself a favor and try it. Even if you're coming from Kansas City, Saint Louis, Chicago, or anywhere else. One should definitely try the blue note. And if they have time and are here for another couple of days, or have a dog... Then they should also check out Rose Music Hall. Super clean Super relaxed Todd to the Blue Note bohemian joint. And Columbia is also amazing, the home of the Blue Note. You won't be...
