It saddens me to leave this review. HCC used to be my happy place. Until they destroyed my dream. I was denied my ADA accommodations, I was bullied unmercifully by a professor, and the administration did nothing. I was handed off from one administrator to another in an attempt to fix the damage caused in an attempt to run out the clock so I couldn't pursue legal action. It's the worst academic institution in the state. Kathleen Heatherington's administration was on point, and they cared about the students, all the students. This current administration is a sham! No one accepts responsibility for their inactions, the title 9 deputy is a joke she did not a single thing she said she would do to help me. I'm a senior citizen on 100% disability I wanted to learn a skill that would allow me to return to work. I don't want to be on disability. They took the government money for my education fraudulently. I've got over 90 credits, I'm a Phi Theta Kappa honor student and I have no degree. This has gotten me no where...don't enroll here! It's a nightmare institution with frauds in administrative positions and Instructors that bully disabled students (Especially the allied health...
Read moreMost of the teachers are good and most staff is friendly, HOWEVER.. if you don’t actually live in Howard county don’t waste your time here. They only accept students into their programs that live in Howard county I honestly don’t even know why they even let out of county students in the school when they have no intention of actually letting them in their programs. You could have straight As & all the requirements for admission into a program and they’d still pick a Howard county resident with none of the requirements. They’ve never accepted anyone into their dental hygiene program that wasn’t a Howard county resident, I’ve never seen a college pick based on where a person lives and not their academic ability. It even says on their program pages that HC residents get first pick. This school took the passion I had for the profession I was planning on going into and completely drained it because after working so hard to get all the requirements done that were needed for admission into a program I knew I had 0 chance of getting into it because I live in Anne Arundel county. This college could’ve been an amazing school if they weren’t bias towards...
Read moreI started attending HCC in August of this year. So far I have found only kind, helpful staff willing to assist in any way, a very nice and diverse student population, and a beautiful campus. It isn't huge, but first time students might visit in advance to become more familiar with the location of everything.
As for student dining, the cost of a large soda (32 oz) is 2 dollars and 17 cents, which is more than the price of a soda of the same volume at McDonald's. Slightly ridiculous. It is advisable to bring a water bottle to fill up rather than paying 2 dollars and 50 cents for one out of a vending machine or $3.50 for the water in the dining area of Café on the Quad.
The class size is small, with the student-to-instructor ratio at approximately 25:1 in most classes. The professors are dedicated to helping their students succeed, something not commonly found in 4-year universities.
There are plenty of clubs, sports teams, and other extracurricular activities to get involved in.
I really like this school. I would definitely recommend it to anyone even considering community college - or even...
