Where do I begin?! I had problems before day 1 even started. I turned in my financial aid in June, weeks rolled by and I never received any information regarding fin aid. I would call and literally every single day for two weeks I got a "she's not in her office/she's with another student she'll call you back." I couldn't go in physically because I was working two jobs. Well, I never got calls back! It wasn't until I couldn't take it anymore and said "well you can put me on hold until she's done, I'll wait." Finally I got hold of someone just for them to tell me that they're missing documents, which I was never notified of! Late registration was approaching and I didn't want a fee so I got all my documents together in two days. Gave it to them. Waited a few days, no calls or emails. I called and they gave me a run around again. Well I got all my paperwork in a week before due date, but they wouldn't let me register til it was cleared. So it took the Fin Aid office TWO MONTHS to get my paperwork done, after I gave them all my paperwork BEFORE my due date and they still charged me late registration! Also don't expect any other financial aid besides qualifying for a Pell Grant. When I tried to get advised, I wasn't even seen by anyone in my department. I'm not sure why I had to be advised or have someone register for me when I'm earning a certificate. The program requirements are clearly outlined, you just take them in order. I also tried speaking with someone in my department, i get transferred 3 times and never end up speaking with whoever I need to. The staff is generally disrespectful, and condescending. Some of the teachers I've encountered don't care about their students' success. One of them has blatantly called a student incompetent or stupid because they asked a question, when she didn't speak clearly enough for any of us to hear it. Some of them are incredible but there are a few that really just don't care. If you're paying out of pocket I really don't recommend this school. Just go straight to a 4 year school, or a...
Read moreAs someone who has taken classes at MTC, taught as adjunct faculty at MTC, and now works full time as a faculty member, I have to say we offer a tremendous array of programs for those wanting to learn a skill and go to work, those interested in an AA or AS degree or enter the health science field, and those wanting to earn transfer credit accepted at four-year institutions at one-third the cost in smaller classes. This is an open door school which means that students are met where they are in reading, math, and English and assisted in improving their skills so they can be successful in whatever program they choose. Unlike four-year colleges, MTC does not turn away anyone who wants an opportunity for an education because of high school grades, low SAT scores, or other admissions requirements that many graduating h.s. students cannot meet, for whatever reason. We don't judge and point a finger of blame at anyone, including the under-prepared student. We feel it a privilege to work with those interested in getting an education. We are cost-effective, friendly, and pro-student. Any one interested in improving himself should always do research and find the institution which offers the best match in programs and costs for their academic goals. Not all schools are right for everyone--they all have particular mission statements. We are not a school with an athletics program, or a band program, or a Greek community. That is not our mission. So, I would encourage each person to do your research, visit the campus, read the program descriptions and course requirements, then choose the best fit for the degree and career you want to pursue. To anyone who claims they have been treated like a child: act like an adult and you will most likely be treated as such. Let your own behavior reflect civility, professionalism and warmth. Keep a smile on your face and a positive attitude in all you do, and life is so...
Read morePulled me out of a class without even letting me know. Needed the summer credit to transfer and couldn’t even at least let me know they took me out of the class before it started. Communication skills are lacking and your on your own as soon as you make it into the school. Wish I would have known what I was getting into before I started taking classes here.
update: I just bought a textbook from midlands tech and they sold me an access code for part of my textbook that has already been used. Also wouldn't put me back in a class i registered in enough time for because I missed the deadline for the payment of the classes which was less than 8 hours from when i registered for the class and there was no clear advertising of this date anywhere i saw as i was trying to sign up for classes. I attempted to get back into the class but between the few people who would actually answer their phones during office hours and those people sending me in circles trying to find the next person who can help me when all i needed was the first person i contacted to have a phone call with me. I left messages and called multiple times but only got responses in emails. That person sent me to a bunch of other people who couldn't help me with what i needed and it turns out she was the only one who could help me. I missed the deadline to get back into the classes due to "missing too much work" where it had only been one week since the class started but it would have been less time if someone could've answered my phone calls when I called instead of ignoring them and choosing to use emails which take a much longer time to resolve the kind of situation I was in. It also seems a little odd they can take my money on the weekends but not answer my calls...
