When I first stepped into Lionheart in the beginning of summer 2025 to get my free consultation, I was greeted by Jose, where he asked about my fitness past and goals. I told him about my aspirations to lose the fat I gained through college, have more muscle than I even did before I stopped lifting and playing sports in High School, and that I was in Columbus only for 10 weeks for an internship, so I needed to maximize my time. I also told him how many times I was able to attend per week, and how much free time I usually had on non-lifting days, as well as flexibility with my diet. Lastly, I explained that I had prior wrist and shoulder injuries from hockey, and struggled to do certain workouts. Spoiler Alert: by the end of summer, I could bench heavy, no problem. He was extremely friendly and understanding, and promptly got to work. He worked with me 2 days a week, but still gave me dietary advice to maximize my results, cardio plans for days I did not lift with him, and even invited me to run with a group once a week, as he truly does establish an amazing sense of community at Lionheart. I made great friends with other clients and trainers that I met there, and had a great time all while putting in hard work. It made me look forward to any chance I could get to be at Lionheart, or just run with the group. Not only those great perks, but any time I had a dietary or fitness question, Jose was happy to answer as quickly as possible, even on rest days. Now to the fun part! In just 10 weeks, Jose helped me achieve greater results than I could have possibly imagined, and I plan on continuing this fitness journey through the rest of my life. I lost 15 pounds and can bench 70 more pounds, can do 3+ pull-ups now (which I lost the ability to do over the years), and have knowledge about fitness I never thought I would have that will benefit me for the rest of my life. I was trying to get into strength training for my health and kept feeling that I was tweaking something and honestly was in a lot of pain after workouts (i.e. low back and knee pain). I am currently a medical student and have a pretty busy schedule.
Lionheart made everything super simple for me. They met with me and did a whole free first session mostly focused on assessing my training history, concerns, and goals. Since then, I have been working with Jose on a plan focused on my goals and have made so much progress.
My pain has greatly reduced and my lifts are getting stronger (went from minimal deadlifting experience to currently hitting a 355 lb 1 rep max in 9 months). I look forward to my workouts now and get to try something new every week (e.g. banded exercises or different barbell types). Also, I can always fit it into my schedule whether it is at 6 am or 6 pm given their incredible flexibility as a staff.
Additionally, I truly value that they are willing to adjust my plan with me. Whenever my pain or tightness does flare, they work to assess it and modify my routine to ensure I am rehabbing appropriately and activating accessory muscles to provide proper support.
Most importantly, they have become a great community for me. Jose and the rest of the staff truly treat you like family and I have never had a negative experience. There have been so many sessions where I have stuck around to do random exercises like boxing or just chat. I have loved it so much that I convinced my sister who is at Ohio State too to come to train at Lionheart with me.

Josie has become the highlight of my days and she really focuses on the functionality and safety of lifting while still pushing you to reach your highest potential.
I’ve joined countless gyms and workout programs and this, by far, has been the most valuable one. Jose is the owner and he really makes you feel like family. It’s a tight-knit group of people but it’s not at all intimidating or overwhelming. The laid back chill atmosphere makes me look forward to working out every week. Most of the time it’s just me & Josie in the gym utilizing the top-tier equipment. She monitors my form and adds weight when she sees I’m ready to level up. Being a novice in weight lifting Josie gives me peace of mind in knowing that I’m lifting properly at a weight that is challenging & effective, yet safe.
