I've been very disappointed by my visits recently to Giant Eagle on Sawmill Road. The store is undergoing a major renovation into a Market District which makes it hard to find anything. The shelves were poorly stocked and labeled, and many items were overpriced or not the price they advertised. I had an issue with a few items not ringing in the sale price and had to search for someone to help me at the self-checkout who then refused to correct the price. The staff was condescending and downright rude when telling me I wasn't a member of the rewards program even though I scanned a Giant Eagle advantage card. The no service vibe at Giant Eagle is very similar to that of a discount grocery store like Aldi where you have to scan your own groceries and pay for bags. I will say though Aldi has better service, when you approach a employee there they don't turn around and walk the other way. I'm all for bare bones grocery shopping when it saves me money but Giant Eagle is often the most expensive on on my grocery staples even higher than Whole Foods. The loyalty program is confusing as different variations of it have different pricing that is not clearly explained. I think Giant Eagle should spend time straightening out their operations and not being so anti-customer instead of wasting money on a never-ending remodel and rebrand that won't change the underlying problems. The last few visits I've made to the store I've been made to feel bad to ask for help and I feel cheated and disrespected as a customer, and as such I'll go to one of the vastly better options nearby such as Meijer, Target, Walmart, Kroger that don't hold their customers...
Read moreUpdate: So, I ended up calling the corporate customer service line this time to cancel it and get a refund after waiting 3 hours past my scheduled window for the delivery. When the CSA called the store to cancel the order they tried to tell them that the groceries were on their way. Now that's really strange because I had called the store first maybe 15-20 minutes before to get an ETA on the groceries and was told that for the last 30-60min they'd been unable to contact the delivery service they go through and that when they heard something they'd call me back. No one had called in the time it took me to call the customer service line and schedule a call back. The order got cancelled and maybe 20 minutes after that we get a knock on our door and it's some guy delivering some groceries to us. I say some because it was a few things I had ordered but not everything. So, yea I will not be using curbside in any capacity with Giant Eagle at all ever again. Would put no stars if that was an option but can't.
Decent store. People are nice. I just wouldn't use their curbside service at this location unless you're doing pickup. Almost every order I've placed for delivery has had some sort of issue. The people who answer the phone for curbside and do the shopping in the store are always very nice and apologetic and they do compensate me for my trouble. But I honestly would prefer to just have my groceries. I work alot and I don't have a working car right now so delivery is supposed to be really convenient for me and it's not. Anyway, I just wanted to give a heads up that if you do use curbside here perhaps do the pickup vs. the...
Read moreInept employees. Went to get a plant and the employee working the area ran over to hug a friend near the customer service desk. She even "squeached" when she saw her friend. I waited at the floral desk for about 5 minutes and she didn't come back. The customer service employees even saw me and didn't say anything to the employee (e.g., hey, you have a customer...). I left and went to go get a card, came back 5 or so minutes later and the employee was still talking. I finally picked up a product, took it to customer service for a price check. And said employee said, "it should be __ amount, but go ahead and check in case." I was so appalled at the behavior. Same trip, second instance... I had a box of diapers and a thing of baby wipes... There was a sign stating you buy a box of diapers (selected varieties) and get wipes for free. I wanted to know if the diapers and wipes I picked up were part of the sale/deal. The cashier wasn't sure and said she couldn't do a price check to find out so she called a manager over... A guy showed up and she asked the question, he said they all had to be diapers. This confused me and I mentioned the sign and his response was, "I don't know the current ads". What? Wait, you're job is to know the ads for the store as a manager so you can assist customers OR go double check or look the ad up to help the customer.
I used to shop giant eagle exclusively until about a year ago. The only reason I shopped today was to pick up prescriptions... Guess what, we are changing pharmacies so no more going back to...
