I went to this location and asked for small knotless. They showed three options , I chose the one that was $180. I informed them that I want the length to be to the middle of my back in which their response was that would cost more which I understood. I typically don’t do reviews, however in this case I feel the need to. I paid $247 after I was told $245. The payment was not an issue however I was left unsettled. The parts were too big as were the braids and that’s exactly what I didn’t want , it’s as if they did what they wanted instead of what I asked and paid for. I also wish they would’ve been more gentle with my hair. The reason why I didn’t want medium or large is because my hair is shorter the they will slip out quicker. The use of jam/ to slick my hair was also limited and it’s already frizzy after two days. For this reason, I won’t be returning unfortunately. It’s sad that people get excited to get their hair done and come ready with trust only to be disappointed in the end. The length was also longer . It is so important to pay attention to what your customers are asking of you to do, especially because like you all we work hard for our money. There was no moose added and it felt rushed. Also, while sitting in the chair, a lot of times customers cannot express how they feel during the process due to the chairs facing away from the mirrors. Future customers please periodically ask to see your hair while it’s being done to make sure you are getting your desired look. Additionally , especially for our black women be more gentle with our hair . If we blow dry prior and you blow dry again , that’s great. However be more gentle with combing as it breaks our hair off if it’s handled in a rough manner. My parts in the front the ones that I can see were uneven. Please do the style people ask for and not what’s easiest and more convenient for you .
I am posting with no intention of arguing with whomever is in charge of the review section for this business. This business is up and running for a reason, this was my second time here and the experiences both times were similar. A previous customer in front of me didn’t seem to like her hairstyle, they spoke about it after she left , you never know where someone is from and whether or not they understand what you are saying. Moving forward, I hope this message helps the business in some way especially in regard to customer satisfaction. A great way to build and keep great clientele is to implement certain structures in place in order to keep your customers coming back for more. Lastly, whomever is in charge of the reviews should be mindful of how to respond professionally and effectively. While researching for hair braiders people may come across the reviews , and reviews serve a purpose . You may lose customers before getting them. If someone is writing a review to let you know that they didn’t like their experience , don’t make them feel any worse especially if they didn’t disrespect you all. We are giving you guys constructive criticism, not criticism. You never know who may be sitting in your lovely chairs. I am not sure if what of hair you all use to braid with, but it’s causing customers heads to itch. For the amount of money we’re paying the service should match even if just a little bit. Whether that entails the hair being done properly or a greeting when customers walk in or out your doors. I’m not a bad person , just a disappointed customer. I don’t think it’s the customers job to repeat their expectations once the job has been done incorrectly when they tell you initially what they want and trust your work, after however long it already takes. Google doesn’t save the issue that occurred , however it may prevent another customer from being disappointed by your services. I don’t believe this will last 2 weeks. Additionally, I know how to braid my own hair but occasionally I pay for the convenience of a professional doing it for me . There needs to be more KNOWLEDGE of how to handle and treat different African American (Black) hair textures in this...
Read moreI am not sure where to start.... I am only giving 2 stars because I made a same day appt and they were quick. My experience was terrible. I called to ask if they did faux locs, the woman who answered said yes. So i asked what the price would be, she said $180. I made an appt. When I got there a woman flung a loops of different types of braids on the table and gestured for me to choose. I told her I had an appt for faux locs. She looked confused, then went to the salon section and had a mini yelling conference (in their language) then told me to have a seat and someone would be with me soon. (Not too bad so far). Another woman comes out and demands that I show her a picture of what I want. She looked at me and asked if I have had these done before because they hurt really bad. I told her yes. When I showed her she said it would be $220. I looked at her and told her that the woman over the phone said $180. She began to tell me how the $180 price was for locs 'this big'(about the size of my big toe). In my mind I thought... nobody gets faux locs that size... but I was desperate and continued to the open chair. As I sat waiting for her to finish the woman ahead of me I could hear them talking about a picture (in french). Then a woman came over to me and without any words removed my scarf and began to ahgresivey blow dry my hair. When she was finally done with the woman ahead of me, another woman comes over a d starts braiding my hair. After about 20 minutes the original lady began braiding then asks me to initial the sign in sheet saying I wont make then take the braid out or something. A few hours have passed and there are now 2-4 women braiding and pulling my hair in every direction. At this point my neck is killing me... then the wrapping of the locs begins.... everything is seemingly going as expected. After about an hour I look at what is going on in the back of my head and I notice the locks look very stiff. As I move around.. they stay still. I didnt panic yet because this happens sometimes. Panic set in when I noticed 2 women sealing up and down the locs and holding the flame there for too long. Thus hardening the locs. They finally finish and I am out the door. I cant move my head at all.. and have to drive back home. Usually I can put my locs up or pulled back but I realized I couldnt.. becausr the locs were too hard.i gave it a few days before I decided I hated them but in those days the locs did not loosen up and they shed constantly. They are so hard I cannot put them in a bun or really even pull them back.
I would not recommend this salon for faux locs at all. They have pictures on their site of locs smaller than mine yet overcharged. I am upset but mostly...
Read moreGivens Hair Braiding has gained a customer for life! When I talk about customer service and feeling like I matter as a customer, they exceeded my expectations. To make a long story short(I’ll try my best), got my hair done and loved it but the hair caused me to have an allergic reaction and I had to take out the braids after a week. This was the first time ever having this issue, but I recently finished up chemotherapy and that can cause changes in your skin and scalp. I wanted the braids done again but I wanted to ensure that I didn’t have the same issue. Melody gave me detail instructions on how to pre wash the hair and even stayed on the phone with me while in the hair store to make sure I got everything I needed. The whole time she was so patience and kind on the phone with me. The next day when I came to get my hair done, Anges who did them before was there and would be doing them again which made me happy because she slayed them the first time. I decided this time to go a little shorter and less full to make them not so heavy; Anges made sure every step of the process I was happy with the length and weight. When Melody arrived to the shop she came and checked on me to make sure everything was going well. I felt like so special and like my satisfaction with their service and the style really really matter. When it was time to check out as an additional courtesy they gave me a discount on my hair since I had to come back to get it done. By no means did I blame them for the allergic reaction to the hair and they did everything possible to make my return trip to the salon a great one…so to also offer me a discount on my hair when they didn’t have to…I was left speechless and so appreciative. Givens Hair Braiding is not only a professional business that does amazing work, they are good people that care about their clients. Thank you Melody, Anges, and the whole Givens crew for taking such...
