I had a terrible experience at 2nd Debut: I brought my 86 year old mom and a friend there to shop after we had grabbed lunch. Shortly, after arriving to the store, one of my friends went to the register area and asked if she could please borrow the restroom (she drank a lot of water at lunch) and she was told âno that they do not provide a public bathroom.â My friend asked if there was another one close by in the area and the people at the register said no thereâs none in the strip shopping center in which the store is located. My friend hated to ask us to leave the store just so she could go to bathroom, but the lady at the register said that they had inventory items in the bathroom and therefore they could not allow guests into the bathroom. So reluctantly she explained her situation to us and said she would be right back, but she would need to take the car and go find a bathroom. I told her to take her time we would shop and look around however, shortly there after my mom approached me and said âI hate to say this, but I also have to go to the bathroom now tooâ The problem being at this point, my friend had already left with her car and now we had no way to leave and go in search of a bathroom. So I pleaded once again with the. Owner to please make an exception for my 86-year-old mother to use their bathroom. We offered to leave her purse, etc. at the cash register and she would go into the bathroom and not bring anything in with her. But still they refused. I went outside with my mom to try to find a store nearby with a bathroom, but there is very little in that shopping center. My mom was becoming desperate trying not to have an accident so again I went back and pleaded with the owner of the store to please make an exception and just allow my mom to go to the restroom or else she is going to end up having an accident. still, the lady was defiant and said itâs not possible because we keep inventory in the bathroom and we canât possibly let you in there with the inventory. I said she could literally go into the bathroom with my mom while my mom goes to the bathroom if it will give her peace of mind, but that I was in a desperate situation. The owner continued to refuse and made zero accommodations for our unfortunate situation. I canât believe a store of that size cannot provide a restroom for their customers. I had shopped there several times in the past, but her rude attitude, and lack of flexibility to assist my mom was ridiculous! You should be able to offer a bathroom in case of an emergency and she shouldnât store inventory in a bathroom! That seems unsanitary. Ultimately, we were able to get my mom to a gas station so she could use the restroom. We will not ever return to that store and I donât recommend it to anyone. I do however recommend a cute boutique up the road in the HEB shopping center that we found called: Hello Beautiful Boutique, I noticed it had not one but two beautifully appointed customer bathrooms! I thanked the ladies at the boutique for caring enough about their customers to offer a bathroom and told them about the horrible experience I had had up the road. They said that they wanted to make sure their customers were comfortable, and hence, when they designed the boutique, they put in two bathrooms! Myself, and my mom and friend were excited to spend our money at their boutique, knowing that they valued their clients. All three of us spent more than we planned buying gifts for ourselves and others while we were at Hello Beautiful Boutique ringing up several hundred dollars in purchases as we felt extra compelled to Spend a little more to support a store that thinks of their customer needs first! We literally filled our trunk with bags, and they kindly wrapped any of the items that were gifts at no additional charge. đđź SHAME on 2nd DebutâŚhave a little empathy for someone in that predicament and figure out your bathroom situation! I know you clearly donât care about losing three customers, but thatâs part of your problem you should!...
Read moreI've been a customer for around a decade, and I've been satisfied to pay a bit more here than other places because I like the brands and condition of clothing.
That said, I think it's a better deal to be a buyer than a co-signer here.
Having been a long-time customer, I'm familiar with their pricing and felt confident entrusting my items to the shop without questioning their evaluation process. I was disappointed this last time with how low my items were priced, especially given their condition and popularity. The items I bought included Mango, Zara, Ralph Lauren, WHBM, VS, etc. All of my items were priced $10-12 or less.
For example, a once-worn pair of linen Mango trousers (current season and still fully priced at $100 on the website) sold for $12; A like new WHBM belt for $6; once-worn Zara pants (routinely sold out) for $12, etc. This left me with an average earning of of $5 per item.
What didn't sell - such as a non-brand fully polyester skirt from Marshalls - was overpriced at $16. When I inquired about their evaluation process and price discrepancy between the brand items and non-brand items, I was told that items are valued according to their resale market value and demand. Fair enough and also proves my point - it's evident that customers are intelligent enough to factor in the material and brand name into their estimation of an item because those items which were of value actually sold and the lesser value ones did not. The shop's pricing scheme, however, did not reflect that. Using the store's own inventory as the basis for evaluating the value of my items, I expected better compensation. I also expected better research on the store's part and/or solicitation of the co-signer's input in cases of unfamiliarity with brand/value.
I appreciated the owner's transparency when I asked for insight into their assessment process, but I don't agree with the logic used. Her suggestion to use a place like Poshmark just equals a loss for both of us. Surely collaboration with co-signers would be a gain for both the shop and co-signer. Takeaway - it's a loss to bring in current season and/ or higher quality items at this time; it used to be different in the past.
Re the atmosphere in the store - unfortunately, the negative reviews resonate. As a white person, I always feel relieved upon exiting this shop. This has been my experience since I began shopping here. Other white friends who shop here have shared the same opinion. When a broad cross-section of society has repeatedly expressed the same sentiment for years, that's an important signal that there's room for growth. Personally, I feel as if I'm in someone's residence and I should feel privileged to share the space, which of course, is ridiculous. Except for Taylor (I believe? younger), the interactions with staff feel disingenuous and like they're constantly in defensive mode.
It's also disappointing that the very public display of a particular religious affiliation expressed by the music/decor doesn't align with the attitudes of most of the staff and may seem hypocritical to those of different religious backgrounds. That's probably the most upsetting, and something I'm not...
Read moreI am rather new to this area and had been traveling from Huntsville to Houston to shop my favorite upscale consignment store. What a blessing to find such an awesome shopping experience right in Conroe! I walked in and witnessed a bright, organized uplifting store with so many beautiful items that enticed my attention. I was also greeted with uplifting yet soothing Christian music and wonderful helpful people. Having many years as an experienced shopper I believe people respond to the spirit of goodness that may or may not come out of you so as long as I am coming from the right respectful & kind place I will receive that treatment in return. Three hours later my girlfriend & I walked out with many bags, a huge smile, & promising to be back! Not all consignment stores are created equal- this is a winner! Thank you Tiffany for such a shopping...
