So I have been to this place several times. The food is always usually pretty on point and this place is usually not place special enough to leave a positive review or upsetting enough to leave a negative review. The only reason I'm leaving this review is this is the first time we went with more than 3 people.
From the beginning of our experience: a group of 7, we got there and we're told it would be a 10 minute wait. It ended being a 25 minute wait. After about 10 minutes we noticed there were 2 booths back to back that have been empty the entire time we have been waiting that would have had plenty of space for us all. When we requested our group to be sat there instead of having to continue to wait for an unknown amount of time for a table that could fit everyone we were denied and then told they had a table for us. The table we were eventually taken to was a table for 4 and table for 2 pushed together with a chair on the end. Needless to say when all the dishes came out we did not have any space on the table. It was very smashed and uncomfortable. On top of that the one on the end had to keep moving for the staff to get through to the kitchen.
Moving onto the food. Our waitress took the orders which was fine. When everything came out the adults dishes came out a solid 5 minutes for the children's dishes (they only had pancakes, and 1 chicken strip). This alone is upsetting but we had to keep telling the waitress the items that were missing while was walking by because she never checked on us or asked us if our orders were correct. She also never refilled our drinks. We had to tell her when to remove dishes from our table as well when the sides came out because of the little space on the table.
Finally a side note if you are military this place does offer a discount. I always ask for it and then whatever the discount is I give back to the waitress on top of whatever tip I was gonna give (ex. If I leave a $10 tip and get 3.50 off for military the waitress gets $13.50). However I'M THE ONE who asked about it and began to reach into my purse to get out my ID but husband beat me to pulling it out because he already had the wallet out. She told me it was fine and I didn't need to continue to pull mine out but then the checks came out she only applied it to my husband's meal. When I asked about why she didn't apply to mine as well she argued and said it's policy and they can only apply to each ID. When I explained I was military we well and she didn't even want to wait for me to show her my ID. She gave as half ass apology when I showed it to her because I was annoyed and said she assumed it was only him that was military. It was honestly pretty sexist especially coming from a woman and lazy she didn't ask other people table as well. It was a table of 2 military couples that served 10 years and have been deployed to the middle east. Don't assume....ASK!
The largest complaint today was the waitress who was lazy, inconsiderate, inconsistent, and oblivious when it comes to her job. Though I realize how Karen'y this sounds I'm annoyed because it could have all been avoided with her just coming 1 time to our table and genuinely asking how we're doing. Also like I said I try VERY hard to make sure I treat my service staff well and the way I was treated when I just inquired about the military felt so disrespectful. Please speak with your staff. Especially since 90% of people who are vets the spouses have ID's as well and I've never had a service staff check if it was if was the one who served or if it says "dependent". She should have "assumed"...

So... where do I begin reviewing The Toasted Yolk??!!! It got SCARY!!
We tried FOUR TIMES to give these jokers a chance to redeem themselves. At first, the food was great, but the 'gourmet' named and priced coffee was absolutely awful!! We paid almost $9 for three cups of coffee. Huge waste! The waitress said that they serve gourmet coffee at their OTHER restaurants, but not here! Instead of changing the price on the menu to what a crappy cup of coffee would cost, they just kept it in place! On my receipt it read 'gourmet coffee'! Funny thing, this trumped the food. We paid $53 for breakfast for three people. I had to ask twice for everything because she kept forgetting to bring things we ordered. Good food, but ditsy service and bad coffee. I paid a fortune for a side of avocados and when I saw them, two of the four tiny slices were black and rotten!!!! I asked if they could replace the rotten ones. They literally brought me ONE slice of avocado and the cook brought it out PERSONALLY!!. I felt completely intimidated. Never have I had a chef, if that's what she was, come out and confront me personally and be so rude. "Here you go!" HMMMM.... one lone thin slice of avocado on a huge plate. Message heard loud and clear, maam!!
My son is a Chef, btw.
Yesterday, we went to the Toasted Yolk again for breakfast. This was our fourth and final visit here. Right off the bat, we had to ask for menus. No way did any of us want to read it on our phones. We were handed DIRTY, wrinkled flimsy paper menus! As if we were being punished for not using the QR code menu. The waitress said basically... if you don't do it our way, then you get this crappy dirty menu! THEN... she brought us creamer for our coffee. These creamers were dirty, soggy, and milky. I guarantee you they were taken off somebody's table and reused. Plus, they were WARM! They do not refrigerate it!!!! I specifically told her I can't eat spicy food. I like it, but it messes with my stomach. When I ordered, she neglected to tell me that the sauce poured ALL over my food was spicy!!! Then, she laughed when I told her it was too spicy! As she was laughing, she said, oh yeah... I should've told you it was spicy!!! I ate it anyway because I was starving, and I did not want to send it back. They cut corners.... use dirty cheap menus. They aren't even laminated so they can't clean them!!!! My husband said that we will never go back. My stomach hurt for six hours!
This is a picture of what a side of avacados looks like at Black Bear Diner. The avacados are thick, green and plentiful. Toasted Yolks avacados are thinly sliced and have rot on them EVERY time I ordered them. So I finally complained and got bullied immediately by the cook!!...
Read moreUpdate, 9/30/17 Unfortunately my raving review below has taken a huge smack upside the head thanks to a cook and a manager. Had family down from Tyler and we raved about the breakfast here, we drove over, mouth watering, looking forward to a little taste of perfection. What we got was cold food, remedied by a microwave, the poor waitress tried so hard to make it right, running back and forth to the kitchen, eventually the manager came over smiling like the village idiot asking if everything was ok this time (3rd times a charm) he never apologised, and he never made any attempt to make it right (like ummm let me see, give us a 20% break on the $67 bill) that's just poor business. Needless to say we may never come back and surely won't be bragging on the Grossted Joke. I don't expect perfection, just aim for it and show that you give a darn.
FIRST REVIEW (man you had it, why'd you screw it up?)
First time EVER I wished I could give TEN STARS. This little gem has ruined our dining adventures for good, we liked going to new places and now I just want to come back to The Toasted Yolk..... Yes it was that good.
Let me start off saying if you can find a group of nicer servers I will swallow a toad. The food was utterly amazing and the coffee was the best I've had, it was so good I had to order a cup after tasting my wife's ( I originally ordered a pink grapefruit mimosa đ).
There was absolutely not one single thing that was not better than any other place I've been and I have dined in some of the finer restaurants from New York to San Francisco from Miami to Vancouver BC.
In the reviews I give I judge what I receive against what is promised and expected therefore a we'll run fast food joint and a 5 star restaurant can achieve the same score but obviously the experience is far from the same. I will put The Toasted Yolk up against any breakfast/ brunch restaurant in the country as far as food, service and cleanliness obviously the ambiance won't compare with the high society places like brunch at The Four Seasons but I didn't spend 200...
