4star food but 2 stars due to dining experience. 105 Cafe has fantastic food but I am not even going to comment on the food. Rather, I am going to opine regarding the HUGE problem they have with the oppressive heat that the diners must suffer through while trying to enjoy their breakfast/brunch. My sister had her food boxed to go after we received our plates. She lasted maybe 5 min after the initial wait for our food and ate it in her car. I’m not kidding, it was hot inside there! They do have ceiling fans but they are in a very slow rotation due to the fact that most diners don’t want fans ceiling fans gusting down on their shoulders and their food. The ceiling fans did nothing to mitigate the problem, in our collective opinions. They MUST MUST MUST do something about their air-conditioning /solar gain issues in the dining room. They could add commercial restaurant-quality solar screens as well as have an additional air handler installed into the building. Between the heat gain from the sun and the heat billowing out of their kitchen, there is absolutely no way to enjoy a meal here...unless perhaps there is a foot of snow outside. Even then, the sun would still shine and the solar heat gains would still exist. Whiile dining during brunch time at 105 Café this spring with my family when it was a cool, sunny 74 degrees outside with light winds, the heat gain from the sun in the front windows & heat distribution to the dining room from the kitchen was VERY intense. I Cannot even imagine during the sweltering heat of the summer what dining here would be like. I would bet cheese could stay melted on your plate and the food stay perfectly warm at this balmy venue. In fact, my sister's salad was barely cool and the dressing was literally warm. I assume because of the heat just in the kitchen. Oh my!! I honestly feel sorry for their kitchen staff. Can you even imagine what they endure/suffer during a single shift?!! No wonder they are only open for breakfast/brunch, it would not be humanly possible to endure the temps in that Building during the heat of the summer for the late afternoon and dinner crowd. While my sweetie and I hugely prefer 105 Café to they’re closest competitor, The Toasted Yolk, I think The Yolk is getting the customer volume that 105 Cafe would receive if not for the dining discomforts. If you are leasing this building 105 Cafe, don’t renew and run to a better location!! We would love to support you anywhere but there!! In my opinion, this building should never be home to another restaurant EVER. While it is a fantastic location, you may as well practically be eating outside in the heat. At lest then then, you might actually get a breeze. I’m sorry 105 café, I do love you but...
Read moreHands down five stars. I seldom give a 5star review after the first visit, so when I do, it's deserving. From the second I put our name on the list, to the minute we stepped out, I was impressed. This place is run well. An owner/manager actively working. Coming from the restaurant industry, restaurant management specifically, I promise you, this has become a lost skill. Not here. The service was great, the food outstanding, the portions, very nice. However the star of this review is the owner/manager. Not only was he an active participant in pretty much every aspect that I saw, he did real table touches. If you are from the service industry and you don't know what I am talking about, shame on you.
Anyway, back to the food. I had an Irish Skillet, with real fresh corned beef hash, made in house. The flavor was perfect. The potatoes in the skillet, which can always be a hit or miss, even at home, we're perfectly cooked. I did not have one undercooked or burned. Perfect. The veggies in the skillet were proportionate to the meat, another happy surprise. Personally, next time, I would ask for light cheese, but for cheese lovers, everything was perfectly melted. Best surprise was the requested over easy eggs , they arrived over easy, ! which allowed for the yellows to break and seep down thru my skillet. Joy ! My husband ordered a country skillet , but he managed to make it less than thrilling. No veggies and dry scrambled eggs. He loved it, but it could have been so much more ordered correctly. He is at fault here, not the cafe. He also ordered gravy with his biscuits, even the gravy got my vote.
We've been passing this place for over a year and never stopped before because there 8s always a small line out the door. The weather was nice today so we made the choice to stop and wait, expecting and even embracing a 30-45 minute wait. Another wonderful surprise, less than 15 minutes, as my Wonderful manager/owner/ host indicated when I gave my name. Yes, I am a fan, and yes, we...
Read moreTL/DR in poem form: Usually good, wasn’t today. Get 1/2 of your food, but 2 times to pay!
Well, I suppose it was bound to happen at some point. I’ve loved the food and service here and have recommended it to many people over the past couple years. If today’s experience was a fluke, that’s one thing, but if this is the way this dining experience is going forward then I can’t recommend going here to anybody but culinary sadists.
Getting in was fine and the staff was friendly. We started with and order of coffee and breakfast. The coffee came out swiftly, but it had a fowl taste. I tried to flag down our waitress to let her know but by the time I got her attention the food was there. At least some of it was.
When we dine out, our family waits until everyone is served before eating. Well, after about 10-15 minutes I had to get up to find our waitress and ask how much longer it would be since our other food had already gone cold. Eggs don’t tend to hold their temp for much longer than 15 minutes.
I could tell that they were having issues since we could hear other tables complaint of similar issues. One table received some bonus food…because nobody ordered it, but they seemed to like it!
Our food came to the table all at once this time, and the person who delivered it did apologize for the mix up. Of course, we weren’t trying to make a big deal of things so we said it was “okay.”
And it was. Okay, that is. Normally the food is great…but okay is acceptable. No real complaints can be made except that it wasn’t as good as usual.
Then the bill came. No discounts offered, and we didn’t ask for one either. Although I would have appreciated some sort of reiteration from our waitress (or anyone who was involved with this catastrophe) just acknowledging how poor the experience was.
While I was paying, they brought a second bill to our table for the same amount, but I decided to only pay once! 😂
Gave full 20% because I’m not a monster, but doubtful if I’ll come back...
