United States Postal Service — Local services in Corolla

Wow is an understatement and not in a good way. Hopefully management sees this because I am shocked at the customer service….or lack thereof. We are vacationing here and ordered things for my young child on Amazon for the car ride and also medicine since they didn’t have it at the local store. I went yesterday and the one woman was SO nice and helpful and warned me that when I pick up my other packages the other woman apparently doesn’t like tourists…okay? She said just get there before 3 and she would have them for me. I explained I didn’t know they didn’t deliver so she helped me. So today I went to pick up the packages and the rude woman was telling me there’s a fee to apparently keep the packages there. I got there literally an hour after it showed they got to the post office to pick them up. She tried to charge me $20 to hold a couple small packages right in the little bin next to her. I didn’t bring my card since I didn’t need it the day prior with the kind woman and the rude woman gave me a whole runaround asking me why I’m from out of town thinking I can get packages delivered here and whatever else. Not sure how that is her business at all? Don’t work in a service business if you don’t want to help others and it’s pretty dense to think that only locals can get mail? I asked if there’s anything she could do since I didn’t know about the fees and she told me I could drive back and get my card and come back - offered zero help at all and was completely condescending and rude. Sarcastically said “i can send them back and they can ship them to your house.” I have never seen such horrible customer service and just her condescending and sarcastic tone was actually shocking. People should not work in customer service if they are just old and miserable. It takes no extra time to be a good and helpful human, she just chooses to be outright nasty. While on vacation, I ordered baked goods for my father's birthday from Etsy ; the seller used usps unfortunately (Fedex or UPS are better for rural areas like outer banks). After the Usps status updated to "delivered, parcel locker", I went to the leasing office where I requested the package and they notified me that no packages were received that day and that the "parcel locker" is at the USPS office in Corolla, NC. I drove 15 miles as fast as I could to arrive before they closed (at 330pm) and the Usps lady that I spoke with notified me that the package was not there. Without taking down my tracking number which I was showing to her and without checking anywhere in the post office, she flatly told me that it had been delivered to the address and that "the package would have to be retrieved and brought back to USPS". I told her that would not be necessary because I would go there to retrieve it. Disappointed but determined, I returned to the leasing office and they confirmed that the package was not delivered yet and that the Corolla US post office was in error. I received the package a full 24 hours later - it was indeed delivered to the leasing office at that point, but it was too late, half of the baked goods had already gone bad to my family's chagrin. I should note that withholding mail is a federal offense, so when I arrived to the USPS post office that day , the woman who neither checked my tracking number nor bothered to assess whether the package was in their possession, was in violation of this law. It’s policy, yes you get Amazon where you live because that is your home. But the post office does not deliver to camp sites or motel rooms or weekly vacation renters. Because you are not a resident. If you need items pre plan and pack it or visit Walmart on the way. The Post Office is open Monday through Friday at 9:30 am closed for lunch 12 to 1 everybody needs a lunch break and closes at 3:30 pm Saturday 10 am to 12 pm close. Those employees arrive at 6:30 am every morning to start their day scanning in hundred’s of packages and they have to sort out between the full time residence the home owners and the not on the list vacationers.
