Habit Salon — Local services in Costa Mesa

My haircut was great and I would be happy to continue individually with the stylist but I’m unsure if I’ll continue being a Habit client. I made my appointment several weeks in advance based on my schedule. I received several reminders that if I needed to change or cancel my appointment it would be a 50% service charge if not done within a couple days of my appointment. Totally understandable. But, the day before my appointment, I was asked to move my appointment to facilitate another client and her schedule. I was able to move my schedule but it certainly wasn’t a great first impression. I arrived at the salon and everyone was polite. I was taken aback by the actual establishment. The salon itself looks like a chop shop. There is clearly no investment here. It looks like they had rented the place that day and just thrown people in to work. For the cost of a haircut (over $200) I was expecting a nice salon experience, not a dorm room with curling irons. I started with a hair wash where I was repeatedly “watered”. I got sprayed in the face about 5-6 times. No massage, no heated towels, no scalp scrub. Just kind of a slop of shampoo in the hair. I’ve honestly had better washes at the local Paul Mitchell school. The actual hair cut and consult was great (the only reason this review isn’t a 1 star). I am happy with the result and felt that I received the result that I was expecting. I will say that I didn’t feel like a client during my experience (outside of my haircut). Several of the employees were acting like this was more of a hang out for them than a place of employment. Personal conversations, lunch orders, management issues, etc were all discussed over my head. I appreciate people chatting and a general relaxed atmosphere but this was very unprofessional. It felt extremely awkward and inappropriate. I felt like an unwelcome houseguest. After my cut I went to check out and the woman at the front didn’t know how to do it. It split the ticket between 2 people and asked for tipping twice. This was explained to me to skip one of the services but when I did that, it didn’t tip appropriately so I had to fix that by sending the tip via text message to the stylist (because the woman at the front didn’t know how). The woman at the front was also unable to tell me dates of possible future services or how to book them. For paying over $200 and driving over an hour it was extremely amateur all the way around. Again, happy with my actual cut but the overall experience...

Tatum is BEYOND talented! She’s a true expert hairstylist with the best training, skills, best current techniques and knowledge! She truly cares about her clients and the health of their hair. She’s beautiful inside and out! She is truly amazing with bringing your inspiration pictures to fruition while protecting the integrity of your hair. She can do any color you desire with precision and excellent execution. She also a brunette specialist. Her hair is a gorgeous brunette color so she gets it and understands how to stay brunette with adding enhanced dimension.I told her I wanted to be a brunette but with lived in, seamless dimension. She did even better than what I asked for. She’s worth every single penny and enjoys doing hair that grows out beautifully. Most of her brunette clients only come in twice a year for lightening/dimension /lowlights and every few months or by your preference for toning. Tatum is amazing at formulating color and is a mini Chrissy, which is the highest compliment ever! Her assistant Lola, was also wonderful! I can’t to come back to Tatum at the Costa Mesa location! She’s the BEST!!...

Thank you Habit salon for opening in Orange County!!! I’ve been following their work on social media for years and my experience definitely lived up to the hype! Ive had the same stylist for 5 years, and I did not hesitate to book with the stylist Brenna. She was amazing and so sweet, she made me feel confident from start to finish. I showed her my goal hair and she responded with so pretty! Most other stylist would take 2 sessions to get your hair transformed or give some excuse to why they can’t get you that color. I couldn’t believe the end results, I had my hair cut and colored and I walked out with my dream hair better than I expected! I was assisted by another stylist Tracy who was also so sweet and talented! The salon is so bright and pretty, I was offered water, all the girls were super friendly.
