Richard Michael Salon — Local services in Costa Mesa

I have been using this Aveda location, across the bridge of the mall on Bear Street, for all of my haircut needs since 2009. The first gal I got was great & did such an amazing job that I became a loyal client since then. Unfortunately she moved, but then I got Allie who worked on my hair for years & years up until she left. She was also great & somehow even though I would only get a cut once a year, she would remember everything we had chatted about the year before! I came back last week for a visit now in 2020 and was lucky enough to get Maria. She has been with Aveda for 1/2 a decade. I absolutely love businesses that take care of their employees. The result is long time & loyal employees, which maintain long time & loyal customers. It was a pleasure being worked on by Maria. We talked about so much & have lots in common, that it was just like chatting with a new found friend. I definitely strongly insistingly recommend Aveda Michael Richards salon to all looking for a 100% perfect cut every time. And trust me from one who has visited the cheap commercialized spots time after time, but every time needing to have someone else fix what they did...which in the end, ends up costing about the same as just going to a real salon with hairstylists who all know what they’re doing. I loved Jesse but she recently left the salon. She had scheduled an appointment for me with a new stylist but when I called to confirm there was no record of my appointment and Amber was not working that day. I was scheduled with Carlos. After meeting him, it was clear he was inexperienced so instead of getting color with blue green highlights, I asked for a trim, toner and conditioning treatment. Maria who he asks for help on my color, convinced me to get my roots done instead. I was there over 2 hours, he cut 2-3 inches and it was $190 (I also tipped 40) . He used every product possible on my hair during blow dry and curled it. I had said just a trim as I prefer a low maintenance style. Until I had to do my own hair, I didn’t realize how bad the cut was. Basically the ends are uneven and rough cut. He also literally only did the roots and did not pull any color through the rest of my head.

I did not complain and still tipped because I did not realize how bad the cut was. Maria did not ask if I wanted another appointment or product (which I actually needed). I’m just very disappointed that I need to find a new salon and stylist as I always had such a great experience with Jesse but clearly can’t trust this...

Richard ll has been my hairstylist ever since my first visit here and has done a terrific job every single time, especially with every visit involving a different hairstyle. He is very polite, customer-oriented, and talented at what he does; he has used multiple haircutting techniques on me efficiently, producing amazing results. He is speedy and efficient, yet also does not rush through his work - it's hard to explain until you experience it. One other major positive of Richard is that he does not push products and services on you. If prompted for a consultation on what hairstyle to go with, he gives his opinions (all of which have been fantastic so far), but he will always listen to your preferences.
