A friend was in town and wanted to meet for an early dinner. He was staying at a hotel near South Coast Plaza, so we decided to meet there and pick a place. He had another place in mind, but he changed his mind once there. We were going to our cars to venture somewhere else when we saw Sessions West Coast Deli. There was construction during our visit, and we almost missed Sessions. We had to walk through a store to go inside. It's a hidden gem. I had never heard of them. It is counter service. You order, and it is brought to your table. We were there at about 5:00 pm, and it was quiet. There wasn't a long line, but Eddie welcomed us to his register to place our order. I'll add that my friend and I have known each other for over 15 years, and I'll find an opportunity to embarrass him. We have our Abbot & Costello skit down, and Eddie jumped right in! I ordered The Perfect Burger: Double Chuck Patty, X-Special Sauce, Baby Gem Lettuce, Cheddar, Garlic Pickle, Shaved Red Onion, Sesame Brioche Bun. I added Avocado for a bit extra. They have a gluten-free bread option. The space is relaxing, the food is delicious, and the service is excellent. If you are visiting South Coast Plaza, find it and look for Eddie. I'll be back to try other items...
Read moreI visited Sessions West Coast Deli with high hopes, since they had 32 reviews, all 5 stars, and many if them touting the excellent service they received. I'm sorry to say I was very disappointed.
The sandwiches were decent tasting. The chicken was quite good, the tuna melt was ok. The fries were amazing...some of the best I've had anywhere, and the soup was fairly good.
The gentleman who greeted me at the counter was friendly and upbeat, and I was pleased with the interaction I had with him. Two of the other staff members, however, seemed completely uninterested in helping and answered me without making eye contact and with no sign on a smile. I thanked each of them anyway, but they didn't even have the courtesy to look at me.
The sandwiches could be better, and service needs a serious overhaul.
I'll visit again during the week of Christmas, and I'll update my...
Read moreI did not think the food was good. The fries did not taste like fresh cut potatoes like Five Guys, they had this starchy coating the way frozen fries do. My burger had this strange tasting sauce that ruined the taste, which was not mentioned in the description, the pizza was too heavy on the cheese and felt soggy. I personally got up a half dozen times to get myself napkins, ketchup, etc so I’m not sure what service is there, which I don’t expect in this type of establishment but it does anger me that the iPad asks me for a tip (which I gave but wish I wouldn’t be asked this). The atmosphere was quiet but it was the end of the night in a mall so that was to be expected. The space is beautifully designed but I did not enjoy my food and won’t...
