My wife and I purchased a home in Cranberry Twp, PA in December of 2020 and have now been here a little over two (2) years. Charter Homes has removed the ability to write reviews on the Facebook page and one could assume they did so based on all of the negative reviews they received, so I'll write mine wherever I can.
Some of the biggest issues with our home:
1.) They adjusted our grading plan after we moved in and refused to fix a non-functioning French drain (their words: "the developer installed it, it's not our responsibility." Okay, I didn't buy from the developer, I bought from you?! We've had rivers running through our yard, natural springs (that were known about) causing standing water for 96+ hours at a time and have had to pay significant amounts to remedy this ourselves.
2.) The drywall work is sub-standard and the builders grade materials are so poorly installed (we've had about 400 nail pops), missing paint coverage, you can hear a pin drop from one floor to the next. It meets their "standard" and like everything in the house they blame it all on foundation settling.
3.) Our master shower grout wasn't sealed when we moved in for whatever reason which means there goes 2 days before we could even shower and the grout was so poorly installed it started crumbling in multiple areas at 3 months. Their "fix" was to just put in some caulking that obviously didn't last.
4.) Our entire neighborhood has homes installed with the same basement egress window, we were the last home built and they swapped out the United window for a complete junky Monarch window with smaller dimensions, no decorative features and a broken screen. I wouldn't call this an acceptable substitute.
5.) Due to what I would assume was poor planning, they installed our concrete right before rainstorm and placed plastic sheeting right on top and it is discolored and starting to pit and chip in multiple areas.
6.) We had to replace all of our hose bib sillcocks since they didn't attach them to the home. Upon replacing the front one, we found that they notched an exterior 2x6 by 90%. It's basically hanging on by a thread.
7.) We had a basement roughed in for plumbing for when we finish it, but something that doesn't show up in the plans and they don't tell you about. The steel I beam runs right through where the bathroom is meant to go.
8.) Speaking of the basement, they didn't properly set and seal the sill plate so be prepared for an insect invasion! They didn't "see a problem" with it.
I don't expect a new home construction to be perfect but we tried to have most of these issues covered by their warranty or in good faith and they either phoned it in or downright refused. Their "standards" are worded to give them a way out of MOST fixes and in my personal experience, their project managers and engineers have no authority to do anything but speak...

Read moreMy family bought a townhome here in 2020. Itâs been over two years now. This neighborhood couldnât be farther from a âfamily neighborhoodâ every morning walking my dogs I have construction workers trying to talk to me, staring at me, yelling things at me, trying to talk to my dog. As a young woman alone walking itâs very unsettling. Iâve contacted many times no one has Will communicate back with me. Not to mention weâve had a hole in our ceiling for months now that no one will come fix because out of no where our ceiling starting leaking. No one can tell us why either. 9/10 outlets around our home donât work neither does our door bell. Weâve also had a problem with a resident in the flats that wonât be addressed because the manger doesnât want to âalarm other residentsâ instead of fixing the safety issue this person is causing young woman. As a child care taker of many years now and a future mother one day, I would never bring my...
