After almost a year of my fiance having a membership and signing me up with him, I decided to get back to the gym and take the 5:45pm zumba class today. We moved here a year ago and I used to take a zumba class twice a week for years but for personal reasons have not gotten to the gym since moving here. My fiance dropped me off while he parked and told me to ask for Rob to get my picture taken and finish any paperwork and to tell him for reference that I'm Nathan's fiance and that he calls him Shawn all the time for some reason. So I did that and I sat down with Rob. He asked me for my phone number and found the account. He asked me if I wanted the app or the card. As I was saying umm I....he stood up and left and called over to two guys that were about to leave asking them about the app or card info. We went out of sight and came back a minute later, no apology, and asked me the question again. I said the card. At this time, my fiance walked in. He said, hey Rob what's going on? Rob said hey Shawn. Nathan said, Again it's Nathan. Rob disregarded that and then said to him, you've been a member for a loonngg time, and then looked me up and down and said 'just now you are coming?' in a demeaning tone towards me. I was shocked. He asked why now, what's taken you so long to come in? I didn't know how to answer that so I just said that I'm a golf pro and he interrogated me saying oh so you train, that's why you aren't here. I said no, I run a golf operation. He said oh have you been to newport something(I don't remember the name), it has a simulator. I responded no. He said What? How could you not know about that? It has an awesome simulator. I responded that at my work we have a great simulator as well. He asked me about my position at work and I got the card and left. I went to take the zumba class, which had a welcoming atmosphere and nice people. After the class I waited for my fiance to finish his workout, and waiting for about 10 minutes in the lobby, seeing Rob as he finished with clients and walked around talking with a few people. He did not approach me. I come to find out in the car driving home that my fiance spoke to Rob after I went into the zumba class and said to him 'come on man, I finally was able to encourage her to return back to the gym. I did not need the negative comment towards her.' Rob responded 'oh i'm so sorry, please tel her that, and if i see her again i can apologize to her. fyi Rob did not come over when he saw me in the lobby. I liked the zumba class and will be back for that but my fiance and I are going to be looking for a new gym. Shaming someone for not going to the gym is wrong and bad customer service for customer retention. The star being a 2 is from my fiance's past experiences there as well as mine today. It would have been a 1 except for his positive experiences taking Lisa's and Roberta's...
Read moreI never write reviews but after looking at the 5 star reviews posted I realized it must have been management. I have been there from the day it opened. ONLY reason I am there is the convenience, my office is across the street. If another gym opened next door I would immediately join it. I have spoken to management as well as called corporate, but my word fell on deaf ears.
The majority of the staff are not friendly and barely say hi to you only IF you say "hi" first. The people at the front desk (with an exception of a few) just about look at you bc they have their heads are in their phones. The turnover is tremendous, Half the time they are on their phones or looking at themselves in the mirror flexing and taking selfies. They walk right past garbage on the floor with out picking it up. Never engaging with the membership. The place is filthy, 2 of the 4 urinals are currently broke and have been for weeks,. All the lockers are scratched up. I purposely left some old batteries in a locker and they were there for months. NEVER paper towels in the dispensers, sometimes there is toilet paper and most of the time the trash is overflowing onto the ground. I am there at 7:30 am 5 days a week you would think everything would be restocked. Several of the doors in the bathroom stalls are broken.
As far as the machines, they are dirty as well, dust balls built up bc they have never been cleaned. There are always 6-8 of the machines "in need of service". The pads on the preacher curls are all ripped. Most of the treadmills have hole punched in the plastics, the some of the tvs don't work and some of the jacks for audio are ripped out completely. Weights are left all over the Gym.
There are a couple of cleaning gentleman working hard but apparently there is not enough help for the traffic.
I have visited the Warwick RI and Pawtucket ,RI gyms and they are in excellent condition but unfortunately they are inconvenient. Your staff should visit one of the other gyms to see how the Cranston gym should be operating.
Like I said, I NEVER write reviews but after seeing the misleading "5 star" greatest gym, family oriented I had to write this review before someone else...
Read moreThis gym is in AWFUL shape.
Seemingly every circuit machine has missing pieces, doesn't work or is a legitimate health hazard (seats that drop mid-set, kinked/stripped/poorly tensioned cables, pegs that are permanently stuck).
Half of the cardio equipment is damaged or out of service, with either a damaged screen, broken incline system or a track that slides.
There are almost no handles, bars, grips or carabiners anywhere in the gym, and certainly not enough for the number of machines they have. If you are lucky enough to find them, they are usually mismatched, loose or hanging on by a thread.
There is generally no urgency in fixing any of the equipment, with "Scheduled for Service" signs being attached to broken machines for months at a time.
The bathrooms are always a mess and 9/10 times every toilet is clogged. Urinals have been out of service for months to years.
The pool has been closed "for renovations" for about a year at this point, with no sign of any work being done and no update. Prior to every window being boarded up, it looked as though the walls were being stripped due to mold.
Nobody has any idea what is happening on the outside of the gym either. There are thousands of yellow, metallic plugs peppering the walls and the plastering was completely removed from one entire side of the building. It's been in this state for over a year with yet again no progress or explanation.
It is certainly a shame, as the staff there are generally incredibly kind and helpful and are likely trying their best with the resources they have.
The owner/manager of this location needs to invest some SERIOUS cash into repairs and upkeep, especially when they have the gall to charge what they do...
