My wife and I rarely get opportunities to go out to eat without our children, so we took the opportunity to do so this weekend. We were looking forward to trying Circe out as it is labeled a Steakhouse. When we were seated, our waiter came.over and immediately jumped into the drink of the day special before even introducing himself. I ordered a gin and tonic and unfortunately it was extremely watered down, as I couldn't taste much gin at all. It was restaurant week and my wife ordered from the three course special. He was adamant she give him her order for the dessert as well (I'll get to that later).I myself ordered from the regular menu items. I ordered the italian dumplings as an appetizer. When it came to the table, the plate had three dumplings on the entire dish. I can only assume our waiter gave us the restaurant week sized portion, but I was charged full price for the appetizer. $18 for 3 small dumplings is a bit much. I had the ny strip for my meal, and had ordered it medium rare. Unfortunately when i cut into it, I found it was closer to medium, as there was no real pink inside, but more gray. I brought it to our wiaters attention, and rather than addressing the mistake, he kept saying it was fine. He continued to tell me it was "kind of" medium rare, and that "half" of the steak looked ok. I explained for the price I was paying, I would like to have my steak cooked as I had ordered. I was polite about it, but had him take it back (Ive never sent back an order)and ordered another rare in the event it was overcooked. He seemed more annoyed than apologetic and kept trying to justifythe cook on the steak. By the time I had the steak, my sides gad gone cold. My wife had scallops on a bed of risotto. The scallops were good but the risotto was clearly cold. It seemed as though the risotto was probably sitting out for some time before the scallops were prepared. Once it was time for desert, the waiter had asked for my wife's choice and she reminded him of what she ordered in the beginning. He was very short with his response and said she never told him, so she just reminded him of the order. We asked for the check at the end of the meal and it took 10 minutes to get it. It took even longer for it to be picked up and the waiter seemed rather dismissive. I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. For the amount of money I spent, I can't say I was anything other than disappointed. We felt like we were nothing more than an afterthought. We really wanted to like it, but Im sorry to say the overall experience was...
Read moreWe visited Circe Prime yesterday, our first visit to this location since it became Circe. We had been to the previous iteration, Chapel Grill, some years ago and had always enjoyed it. As Circe Prime, we feel it's gone up several big notches. The decorations improved quite a bit. Linen tablecloths always add some class. We were seated inside in a half-moon booth in a corner. We enjoyed drinks, starters, entrees, and dessert. Our server Constantine and his staff were great, very attentive and knowledgeable, answering all menu questions and keeping our glasses full. Outstanding service. The food was outstanding: lots of prime cuts, fillets, Wagyu, etc. I highly recommend the fillet au poivre and the flat iron cut Wagyu, which was extremely tender because of its Wagyu nature. My sons compared the beef to some of the best steaks available in Providence, which I agreed with. The bartender made terrific cocktails with a flair for the artisan, with the use of bacon fat-washed bourbon, fig-infused concoctions, and the use of flowers—next-level stuff, kudos! A great cocktail really adds to a great meal. As far as other things which add to a meal, the dessert... The almond crème brûlée was the best we've ever had, bar none. The sugar shell was delicately thin and the custard was phenomenal. A dab of Chantilly and a couple of almond biscuits came on the side with some dried cherries on top. What an end to the meal! I had an espresso martini and my sons both had the flourless chocolate cake which was also really, really good. We already enjoyed this restaurant with its unique building and architecture, which really adds something special to the dining experience. Circe would be great for a special occasion and really merits that praise. Rounding out the review is the location, being very easy to get to, plenty of free parking as well as valet parking. The courtyard is really great for a more casual outdoor dining experience. The bar illumination is also quite stunning for some upscale cocktails at the bar, with a modern yet chic vibe. We totally love Circe and will most definitely be back! Thank you for...
Read moreTook the wife to try out Circe Prime, the night started well, Hostess was nice and friendly, and we were seated promptly. We sat in the all-season room and it looked clean and welcoming; temperature was just right.
Appetizers- I had the Octopus Carpaccio which was great and the wife had the Calamari which was fresh and tasted pretty good.
Drinks - wife had the Lychee Martini and it was great, she loved it.
Dinner- the wife ordered the Overnight Shortrib and she enjoyed it and she stated she would order this again.
I ordered the 22oz Ribeye, that per the menu it claims to be 45 day aged prime ribeye, this is where the 2 stars come in, this place claims to be a "Steakhouse" and the ribeye was overcooked, I ordered medium rare, when the waiter asked if the meat was cooked to my liking, I showed him that my $70 ribeye was not medium rare, it was between medium and well done. The service from the waiter up to this point was great, but after I told him that my ribeye was not cooked medium rare, he went ahead an took his phone out and took about 2 to 3 minutes to turn on the flashlight on his phone to show me that the ribeye was actually cooked medium rare, this was very insulting and I did not want ruin a great night out with the wife by complaining even more, so I just told the waiter I would keep the ribeye. I had better ribeye at chain restaurants for half the price. We will not be visiting this restaurant again as it is a fake "Steakhouse". If you are looking eat a great steak in Rhode Island I would stay away from...
