Well I took off a star because of one nurse. Her unfriendly attitude and unprofessional approach got thrown out with the bath water. Maybe she's been there for so long she felt it unnecessary to be friendly to every race. Maybe she thought I was a Mexican...I'm Puerto Rican...big different. Maybe it bothered her to have to actually get up and do some work. Maybe it was that time of the month for her. Maybe she is unhappy in her life or job not sure of anything. But something is obviously going on in her life that's not making her happy or too friendly to others she doesn't know.
So I had some injuries to my knees because I took a tumble down some rocks. Thank God I didn't hit my head. Anyway upon arrival at the entrance I was greeted by a friendly, nice and polite lady who took my information and placed a tag on my wrist. Next I was greeted by another nice, friendly and polite nurse who took a bit more information then was taken to a room to get examined by the doctor. The doctor was very nice, friendly and polite. He order an x-ray for my left knee and an tetanus shot. The nurse that gave me the shot was very nice, friendly and polite. Another nurse came to me who was a clerk and took my insurance card for processing she was very nice, friendly and polite. The nurse that took me and did the x-ray was very nice, friendly and polite. We laughed the most she was awesome.
After reviewing the x-ray of my knee the doctor told me nothing was broken and I was free to be discharged after my knee was cleaned and wrapped. Here comes the nurse who didn't want to be bothered and the thing about it was that I wasn't the only one who noticed this unpleasantness, my daughter an RN noticed it too. So this nurse proceeds to tell me she's going to clean my knees and then put cream and wrap it up. As she begins to touch the open scrape I let out a yell because obviously it hurt! I tried my best not to yell as she continued to clean the area on my knee and shin before wrapping it up, I noticed that she never once said "oh I'm sorry it hurts" or "I'm almost done" absolutely nothing friendly or kind words, sympathetic words to try to bring me comfort to my situation. Just stayed quiet and showed no compassion... so I tried to see if maybe I could get something out of her. I told her she had a pretty ring on which she did, it was silver with a green stone in the middle. She replied with a thank you but that was it. Unbelievable. When I yelled out loud in pain I noticed that a tall doctor with a ponytail came to see what was going on. I apologize for yelling and he said it was perfectly okay and asked in general to a few others nearby if I had been seen and the nurse that was about to wrap my knee bent up right and told him that I was already discharged and spoke very nice, friendly and polite to him, maybe because he was a doctor. When she was finished wrapping up my knee she just left. She never said something like "okay all done I hope you feel better" or "there you go now be safe enjoy the rest of your day" absolutely nothing just coldness. Unbelievable and unprofessional. Everyone else were wonderful 5 stars for their professional attitude and approach to patient care. If I every have to visit this ER unit again I hope I don't encounter this nurse because I'm afraid I won't hold back my observation of her work ethics, behavior attitude. Hope she finds the professional help she...
Read moreI went in for a major back spasm that had left me laid up in bed for several days in awful pain. I was seen pretty quickly in the ER, but honestly expected to get the runaround from doctors and nurses who would assume I was either faking it or being a dramatic weenie. Instead of making me feel silly for coming in over a muscle spasm, my pain was treated almost immediately, I was given an x-ray, and hooked up to an IV with fluids to help with my dehydration. Later that afternoon I was admitted to the hospital for pain management.
I felt very cared for at this facility. Dr. Fee knew the pain that I was going through and was very reassuring that things would get better. Dr. Duncan was very kind during my initial treatment and helped convince me to stay at the hospital rather than suffer at home. My many case workers not only explained things clearly, but also set up follow up appointments with my local doctor for me. I was seen by an awesome physical therapist, Patty, and an occupational therapist before I was discharged and given a script for more physical therapy if I need it in the future. The nurses Sam, Sarah, Robin, and a few others, and the CNAs/meal delivery folks were all helpful and kind. Meals and medication were delivered promptly, and one of the medical care managers came in before I left and asked how my stay was and if there was anything I'd suggest for them to improve. (I didn't have much to say on that front.)
After seeing some of the reviews of this hospital I was a bit worried about coming in. Of course some things can't be helped -- busy or stressed nurses and doctors, the occasional wait time, etc -- but overall I would highly recommend this facility. Thanks to all of the wonderful staff that helped get me back on my feet without...
Read moreWhen I called the ambulance, my grandmother was in such bad shape she couldn't hardly sit up. It's been 2 hours and she still hasn't been in a room, they have her in a hallway somewhere where we aren't allowed to go keep her company. I'll update this review as the situation unfolds, but it won't get more than one star. You don't leave a 78 year old woman having a medical emergency alone in a hallway for hours.
Here is a very late update: the nurse dismissed us sometime after 10pm that night. I don't remember if she'd gotten in a room or not by then, but I don't think we would have left if she hadn't. I called the ambulance around 4pm that day, so that's 6 hours from phone call to getting a room, roughly.
The next day, we went in to check on the situation, and they told us my grandmother wasn't there, and they didn't know where she was. About an hour later, someone found out they had sent her to Oregon over night. They hadn't told any of her family, and when we asked, they didn't even know where she was.
My grandmother is still in a slow recovery several months later, but she did eventually get treated. Providence hospital where my grandmother was transferred to was the second worst hospital I've ever dealt with, right behind Sutter Coast. I don't remember the name of the hospital I like up there in the Rogue Valley, but any hospital in the United States has to be better than Sutter or Providence, so if Sutter gives you a chance to pick what real hospital to get transferred to, try not to go to providence.
If you do get sent to Providence, the good news is the care was adequate, it's the follow up and the coordination and communication...
