Was once a good mall from its beginning in 1981 to 1989 when I left the area. Two record stores.A video game arcade. Kmart. Lots of cool clothing stores. A lot of great stores disappeared over the years. Walmart ends up occupying many former business spaces, namely where Kmart used to be. I think the greedy JJ Gumberg chased them out with its need to increase the rent on retail spaces. Again, Walmart took over a huge space, and ruined the chance of any other businesses to make a single penny. Should be called Walton City, instead of Country Club Mall. Oh well...the thing is that CCM choked the life out of the Cumberland Mall; and now they're, in my opinion, experiencing some well deserved karma. The few people who are saying that it's such a great place, had never experienced the country club mall of the 80s. And don't try to look up those great stores of that decade, because there's no record of...

As a teen I enjoyed going to the Mall cuz it was the hottest place to hangout and meet new ones. Eat pizza here, play video games there all under one roof. These days the Mall has lost its Mojo. You see seniors using it as a recreation center for walking their miles. You see sad non existence of stores that have came and gone. Wow! The only place at the Mall is Walmart. And if you ask every person if they like Walmart, more than half will say no..and maybe murmur something under their breath and walk away. The Mall has come and gone. Leaving only memories to the 30's-40's year olds like me to tell funny hilarious stories of how much fun I had.. when I was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm 42 and I spent my teenage years roaming the mall. It was filled with stores, and those retailers renting temporary kiosks... This mall is not that place anymore. There's vacant retail spaces (BonTon and Sears) that have been empty for a while now.
However, this place is still a great space to do things for the community like farmer's market days, trick or treating, end of year holiday craft gifts from individuals renting kiosk space like the Amish food etc.
This property has been purchased by a company /developer who really has no plans to fill the vacant retail-estate. So, while I still remain hopeful for the property, it's up to the owners to do something with it. Yes, it could definitely use a cosmetic upgrade, but I don't know if they are willing to put out that kind of money on an...
