I have a 2004 Lexus LS430 that needed some wheel bearing work and also will eventually need the timing belt done. I see this local place focuses on Japanese vehicles (Honda, Toyota, Acura, Lexus) so I decide to give them a call. I asked if they could look and see what wheel bearing needs to be replaced, and what they charge for a timing belt job. The first thing the guy says is "That has a timing belt???". I ask how many LS430's they've worked on before which he says "plenty!!". In that case, you'd probably at least know they have a timing belt, along with many other mid 2000's Toyota vehicles. Red flag number one.
Then, after having my car inspected, I come to pick it up. Their paperwork is confusing because there are no estimated labor hours or part prices listed - only how much the job costs to do. Red flag number two. I asked them how much they are charging me for a Timken wheel bearing to which they reply almost DOUBLE than what Rock Auto, a reputable vehicle parts website. After asking why that is, they tell me it is because they need to rely on their parts supplier to allow them to do jobs quickly. However, I told them I'm willing to wait to have the part shipped since it is MUCH CHEAPER - to which he angrily told me we cannot do business because I am "beating him up over parts prices". So apparently they are OK with charging unsuspecting people almost double for parts because they don't want to bother waiting a few days for some customers to save their hard earned money.
I then showed them that the Lexus Parts website has a sale on a wheel bearing part which he again told me that he cannot get parts from there either - which by the way, don't even need to be ordered, you can get them straight from the dealership for MSRP. Where on earth else are you getting your HOPEFULLY GENUINE Lexus parts from??? If you're getting them from the dealership then they should be at least what the MSRP is listed for - which by the way, it wasn't, when I asked how much they were charging for an OEM wheel bearing.
At these prices you're just better off going to the Lexus dealership and getting a free loaner vehicle.
Edit: The business has replied. Note that they have done nothing to explain why they charge double over what other suppliers are charging for their parts and have only used the blanket statement "[We] strive to give my customers a quality repair and value that meets both of our needs", which I guess includes overcharging customers for parts by HUNDREDS of dollars! That's disappointing. Just because others leave you good reviews because they haven't researched how much the parts cost doesn't mean you provide them value. It means you scammed them. I missed two appointments due to life circumstances and you told me appointments cost money at the end of the day, but I'm sure you made it back with how much you charge for...
Read moreImport auto care is a shop you can trust. My AC had stopped working for some time and I finally decided to take it to a shop to have it checked out. After taking my car to rad air, I was told my compressor was bad and it would be $2200 to fix it. I decided to get another opinion and called import auto care, they managed to squeeze me into the schedule right away. After looking at my car for a couple hours the mechanic noticed the actual problem wasn’t in the compressor at all and was actually some loose/damaged wiring. They had my car fixed and blowing cold air that afternoon for 1/10th the cost the other shop wanted to charge. Now my family can go on road trips this summer without sweating to death, I will definitely be returning to them for any and all future repairs and services. I highly recommend anyone with Asian import vehicles to call them for their auto...
