Really bad neighborhood! Wear Kevlar! Bring your firearms! Drive very carefully in the parking lot to avoid falling into enormous potholes. To say repairs are needed would be like saying Antarctica is a place to bring a sweater. Despite the negatives, this shopping center is home to a number of businesses vital to the neighborhood. From a learning center to help struggling students, to a church that helps struggling addicts. Families on tight budgets can find quality groceries at Aldi, household goods and clothing at D.D.'s Discounts where their dollars go farther because they aren't paying for luxurious retail spaces. I frequently see groups of teen girls and moms with toddlers and young children headed into Citi Trends for more fashionable attire. Forest Audiela Village is also home to at least a couple of neighborhood restaurants and several other businesses. This is a really large shopping center like one would have seen in more affluent neighborhoods forty years ago because it IS one those but it's been maintained (for the most part) and remains vital to the area. In the nine years I've been in the area I can't remember seeing the parking lot look crowded but it has never been empty. The merchants and their customers appreciate each other with a mutual respect that seems to be the glue that keeps the neighborhood going. The next time you are headed down Forest Lane you should slow down and take a look at what's there. If you are speeding down Audiela, you might make quick circle through to see just how many shops are back in the corner where you can't see from the street. You will be surprised at the number of little gems waiting for you. I...
Read moreI was told by multiple Louisiana natives that if I wanted to get good fish, I would need to go to Louisiana. I thought it was just a state pride thing, until I had numerous encounters with fried fish from the Dallas area. Being from California, I had high expectations for the southern fried fish, here. But it is legit 9 out of every ten times terrible. This place, Sharkey's, is no different. Greasy and overpriced. Typical. I did hear that before the new owners took over, it was worth something, but has consistently gone downhill since. that's unfortunate, but falls in line with the most other fried fish joints from the DFW area. Rule of thumb though: you walk into a place and all you smell is oil, they haven't changed it in a while...and everything is fried in that same oil - fish, chicken, shrimp, frieds... Turn around and walk out. Head to...
