Let me start with the good stuff first. As a matter of fact, this place has good food, especially their trademark tilapia fish. If you put that aside, then there is almost nothing else to write home about in a positive sense.
I first went to this place about two years ago, being a newly arrived African immigrant to the DFW metroplex, I was looking for a place where I can find good African food. The thing that first struck me when I walked in was how shabby it was! Halve finished food lay on almost 1/4 of available space, leftovers of previous customers. I sat down for a full 20 minutes and noticed no one was bothered to clear them.
That is just the tip of the iceberg, the real deal was the customer service. Back then, I thought it was bad, even by African standards. But when I went back a few weeks ago, it had gone from bad to worse. There was one dude who very obviously knows nothing about how to behave when dealing with people. First, when I called on the phone to place my order, the first thing that he could say was, "yes, what do you want!"
When I came in to collect my order this same guy was at the counter loudly and rudely cursing at a customer until other customers had to intervene. Then he arrogantly told me my order, which I placed about an hour ago was about 45 minutes away from being ready, eventhough they promised it would only take 30 minutes. And when I very politely voiced my concern about the delay, he loudly told me to leave or wait and stop complaining because he had other important...
Read moreToday, I got the worst service ever in this restaurant. For God’s sake why would you serve someone precooked meat? I ordered for vegetable soup (which I have become so familiar with in the past months). Because I trust them, I do not bother opening the packs of soup to see if I got whatever I requested for. But to my greatest surprise, I got home, and I got the shock of the year! The soup was not well cooked, and the meat was just freshly steamed and dropped into the bowl of soup. Omg! It looked so horrible! I felt disrespected. I called them immediately and the guy who served me answered the phone. After making my complain, he sounded so nonchalant (typical Nigerian attribute). Not even we’re sorry or whatever like well meaningful Americans will do if such a mishap happens in their restaurant. Instead, he said “I’ll let the kitchen staff know” while taking orders from customers. No remorse or whatsoever. Almost like he did me a favor taking my money. Well, Aggies just lost a customer. Don’t think I’ll ever wanna go back there, not with that kind of treatment. For those of you still interested, make sure you don’t leave without opening to see if what was packaged for you was exactly what you asked for. I wish I could give no...
Read moreI traveled almost an hour to get here only because Salt and Pepper was closed. I definitely won’t be back. It was a waste of time, money, and gas. First I wanted jollof rice but they didn’t have any. Ok fine, let me just get the egusi soup WITHOUT ANY MEAT! She repeated it back to me to make sure “no meat” is what I said. I told her that’s correct. Not even five minutes later they told me my order was ready. Only to get all the way home and see that it’s loaded with meat. I decided to just deal with it and remove all the meat. Now I’m no expert on African cuisine but this was by for the worst Egusi I had ever eaten, AND SEEN. It didn’t even look appetizing, but I still tried to eat it. I took a few bites and decided I just couldn’t do it. It wasn’t good at all. It was the most bland African dish I had ever tried. Maybe they ran out of spices idk. And I also ordered plantains that I thought I was going to eat in the car on the way home. WRONG! They too were not edible. Old and dried out. Literally was only able to take one bite. I really hate I had to write this review because the older guy behind the bar was actually pretty nice. But yeah, that was my first (and last)...
