First time visit to a comic store in over a decade and was immediately turned off. I chose this location as its 3 miles from my work. I went during my lunch hour in hopes to find something for a gift. Location was easy to get to and as I walked in the store noticed it was very clean. When i walked in there was no hello or any acknowledgment that I came in. Both staff members were behind the counter and were talking to what looked to be a regular. I looked around a bit to find what I was looking for, not sure where to look and after 15 mins still 0 acknowledgement from the staff, I finally found one of the graphic novels. At this point I wanted to ask if they could special order something and the price of what I found, however they were still engaged in conversation with the same person when i walked in. One of the staff did talk to people coming up to purchase something and had long discussion about the character the customer was interested in. Not wanting to ruin their conversation I simply put back my intended purchase and left. I came to the store expecting some customer service/expertise instead of just ordering something online. Can't help the local guy if the local guy doesn't want to help you. Maybe I have high expectations for a brick and mortar store, but I will not be returning to this one. It was clear the staff was knowledgeable so I didn't want to give one star, but seemed to be only if they knew you or you were buying something...
Read moreZeus is a fantastic comic and toy shop in Dallas, in the heart of the city as opposed to be way out in far north Dallas or a suburb. This shop focuses on current releases of comics, trades, and toys. They have an absolutely incredible weekly online checklist that lets you pick exactly what you want for the upcoming week, even allowing room for special considerations like requesting a specific cover or something. The store is really clean and well-organized, and Richard (the store's owner) or his employees are really helpful in finding you anything in their store or making special orders for you, and by using the system you get a 10% discount, sweet! They do have a back issue section but it's mostly more current comics within the last 5-10 yrs I would say. This isn't the place to necessarily scour the dusty back issue bins for that long-lost gem, I just don't think that's really their focus. They have a couple of classic arcade machines in the store, they have cool comic creator signings, do a great Free Comic Book Day event every year, and even have occasional parties/mixers complete with DJ's. It's also really cool that currently, Common Ground Games is literally next door so you can get your fix of gaming from a really nice shop all in the same stop. Nerd Mecca!! Zeus Comics is your absolute best bet for your weekly fix of new...
Read moreZeus Comics continues to be the premiere comic shop, not just in DFW, but in all of Texas. My 10 year old daughter has recently started showing interest in graphic novels, but she's not really into the super hero stuff. Zeus has a HUGE selection of books that are right up her alley (don't worry, they also have all the super hero stuff you can imagine, and then some). The staff was able to recommend a series to her, Svetlana's "Awkward", and she read the whole thing in one sitting that same day and loved it. When you shop at Zeus, you're not just walking into a store and looking at racks hoping to find something you'd like, you're getting tip top customer service guaranteeing you will find something you'd like. Run, don't walk to...
