I have been playing hockey at DIA for 20+ years now and I have to say the arena is in the worst shape it’s ever been in. I even had other people who come watch tell me what a “dump” it has become. No one cleans the bathrooms it seems, soap dispensers are always broken or empty, bathroom stalls are always disgusting with urine everywhere. And the locker rooms in general are just gross.
The employees don’t know how to cut the ice properly. There’s always either too much or not enough water when the Zambonis are done or they miss spots completely. Not to mention the ice on the liberty rink has multiple areas in the boards and ice where it’s potentially dangerous to skate into.
And finally it goes without saying that the parking situation sucks. Two small lots in the corner or you need to hope the garage is open past 11pm or risk being locked in. The other option is the train station.
The arena used to be beautiful, but not it’s a shell of its former self. Hopefully things will improve but who knows. Only reason I continue to play here is to play with my buddies. If not for that I’d...
Read moreNot sure who the previous poster was but something is amiss. I travel in and out of most all the rinks in CT with my son and his travel hockey program. Nine years in the running now. Since the ownership change in DIA in the last 18 months the staff have gone out of their way to accommodate and correct when needed. The facility improvements are evident and ongoing. DIA is headed towards being the premier Ice Hockey / Skating and entertainment facility here in CT. Take the time and see for yourself. Multiple program opportunities from learn to skate on up, great invested coaching for all levels, an excellent youth travel hockey program and North American Hockey development teams and several Pro Hockey teams. Not to mention other entertainment year round. A great venue only getting better! Highly Recommended. As for Covid Protocols...They take temps and contact tracing at entry door, forms are required to be completed, masks up the entire time in the building, constant cleaning going on, definitely what one would expect from a family friendly facility and opposing teams...
Read moreI just read a malicious and untrue review. . I was there with the lady in charge .She had asked me to stay with her if protection was necessary and witness a situation in the bathroom, we stood at the open door and waited ,out of the stall stumbled a extremely high lady. No recovering addict at least that day. She didn't use the bathroom for its intended purpose ,we herd no water used. Bad mouthed the the rink all the way out the door. We called the police , she was not found. Another review also had some mistruths in it. This is not the Danbury rink that I know. These are good people running the rink. They serve the community and go out of there way to help , fundraising ,donating time n money, helping other people in need a so on . I see all this on a regular basis and it's really nice . I have been skating there for years. And those reviews need reviewing. Sorry for the venting. But it needed to be said. It is the Christmas season at least try...
