First time trying this restaurant about a week ago. I saw all of the great reviews and was truly excited to try. Service and atmosphere was 10/10. The food was not and the only reason for 2 stars. I'm not sure if we went on an off night for the chefs, but it was not what we expected it to be. The bandeja paisa was definitely under salted. The meat was cooked all the way, but in all honesty, we weren't sure if it was possibly boiled first. The beans were not tasty, the eggs had so much oil and again under salted. The only good thing were the plantains. The lomo could have been way better if it had salt and less fries. You can't really tell from my picture, but I promise it was alot of fries. I filled up the small appetizer dish of fries I couldn't eat. I did have an empanada that I enjoyed, though. Unfortunately, I don't think I can give it a second try. There were too many things that didn't taste good. I am happy that others feel the opposite!

This was our first time eating at Empire of the Incas. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, the service and the food. There were several families with children having dinner, while we were there. The ambiance was casual and very pleasant. The service was good and the food wa simple and tasty. The portions were big. My husband and I both ordered a pisco sour before our meal. We liked it a lot. We also enjoyed the papa a la Huancaína we shared as an appetizer. For an entree, I had bistec a lo pobre, which consisted of a steak with two fried egss on top (the eggs were overcooked), sweet plantains, rice and French fries. My husband ordered the lomo saltado and he loved it. The tres leches we had for dessert was OK. Our servers were always attentive and polite. The restaurant is spacious, clean and comfortable. We are looking forward to our next visit.

We ordered the house salad, ceviche and mariscos and it took about 20 minutes for our food to come. When it finally came, they gave us the wrong order and we had to wait for another 15 minutes for the right order. I wished they brought out the salad and ceviche first and the cooked food last. The waiters never came to apologize or explain the delay(we had to ask and then they apologized) nor refill our water or ask if we needed more drinks. The food was good and the portions were large. We hope you improve your customer service - For the price you charge, service needs a lot of improvement.

I have been looking for a place I pass regularly where I can get a quick, small meal or appetizer on the way home. I stopped in earlier in the week to get a "to go" menu. They don't have them. That's a negative in my book.

Today I stopped in to try a chicken burrito. There was a slight language problem where the woman spoke in mixed English and Spanish. They did have bilingual descriptions on he menu. Some places in the area have Spanish only menus/signage. This is a plus.

When I asked to pay, as I waited, I offered to pay for the $9.95 meal with a debit card, she looked up my item in the menu and pointed to a large sign stating no credit/debit charges can be made under $10. I gave her a ten dollar bill and she told me she needed more for tax. I commented, sarcastically, "It's over ten dollars?" And gave her more money. This was a negative.

The entire time I was there, she was on a personal blutooth phone call, which made it difficult to determine if she was talking to me or not. That's a negative.

The meal came quickly, a plus. It was a decent sized burrito, which tasted good. A good jalapeno sauce on the side that was picante, without burning my mouth/lips. That subtlety is lost on many American/pseudo-Latino spicy foods. A nice cool white sause, also on the side, which I couldn't identify, but enjoyed. And a salad with cubed fruit, with a slightly sweet dressing. The chicken (& beans, et al,) not only was tasty and cooked well, but was trimmed properly, no grizzley bits to gnaw or crunch through, which can sometimes happen in smaller kitchen restaurants. That's a big plus.

The women smiled, for the first time, as I thanked her before I left, and told her it was my first time there. Maybe she had ended her call, because as I was leaving, it was the first time I had her full attention. (Yet, I was the only customer in the restaurant, at the time. 2pm on a Saturday)

Plus vs. Minuses, I'll go back to try it again. I'd recommend it to others, as well. I hope to have a better experience next time, as service and attention is as important to me, as the food, especially when I'm eating in a neighborhood that is super-saturated with too many of the same kinds of restaurants. If I can't have variety, then I insist you fight...

I continue to try with this place, but I finally just stopped considering it a takeout option. The lomo saltado was not stellar, service is always unpredictable. I've received decent service here a few times, but then there have been times where I ask for an empanada and I receive ensalada (salad). One time, the only employee working hid from me when I came to pick up my order because she didn't speak English and was concerned that I didn't speak any Spanish. I ordered over the phone and when I came to pick up my food, I waited and waited and no one came, but I could hear that someone was there. So I called the number while in the store and she was too scared to come out and pick up the phone right next to me, so she went to pick up the one in the kitchen. I practically had to beg her to come to the front and provide me with my order and I'm a paying customer. Please SPARE yourself the headache and the disappointment and go to the Empire of the Incas in Bethel. Not only do they have parking, but they are ACTUALLY bilingual, they hire friendly, social people, their service is stellar and they greet you at the door. Plus, the Bethel location makes very...
