Dear Books-A-Million Management,
I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration regarding an incident that occurred at your store on March 16th. I visited your store with the intention of purchasing a book, and unfortunately, the experience I had with two of your staff members was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional.
As I approached the front desk to inquire about a specific book on LGBTQ+ literature, I was met with laughter and mocking from the two employees working there. It was clear that they found my request amusing, and their behavior made me feel belittled and embarrassed for simply seeking information about a book that I simply just wanted to enjoy.
I want to emphasize that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their interests or preferences. Laughing at a customer's inquiry, especially when it pertains to a sensitive topic such as LGBTQ+ literature, is entirely unacceptable and reflects poorly on your store's commitment to inclusivity and customer service.
As a result of this incident, I feel deeply disappointed and disheartened, and I have no desire to patronize your store in the future. It is disheartening to know that such behavior is tolerated among your staff, and I urge you to take appropriate measures to address this issue and ensure that all customers are treated with the respect and courtesy they deserve.
Please know that I will be sharing my experience with others and will not hesitate to discourage them from shopping at Books-A-Million until this matter is addressed...
Read moreGreat Selection, Good Customer Service Books-A-Million (or BAM, for short) is my favorite location to buy books in the Quad Cities. A former Borders bookstore, the layout has been relatively the same. The selection is great with novels, comics, text books, toys, magazines, and anything you could expect from a big box bookstore.
This location also has its own coffee shop with a good selection and a relaxing atmosphere. Different groups often meet here for activities and are respectful to other patrons. This shop has both lounge seating and dining seating.
Staff attitude and customer service is good overall. Employees are helpful and have no problem assisting customers with finding the book they're looking for. Unfortunately, this is yet another location where membership inquiries can be burdensome. Reminders on how much you could save by becoming a member are made at every purchase. These reminders aren't usually made with a snotty attitude, such as with similar stores in this area, but they can be annoying.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Quad City book enthusiasts to check out this store if they already haven't. If staff would lighten up on the membership inquiries, this store would definitely get 5...
Read moreEvery time I have visited this store it's some type of issue. The only reason for this visit was to use a gift card i got for Christmas.
Signage and deals are always misleading, a sign can be at a table with the book you chose on it and staff will tell you that book isn't part of the deal. The registers also don't have the deals uploaded so staff are expected to know them all and manually apply them... well they don't, and get pissy when you let them know the books should be on sale.
Today the girl says you spent X amount of money you qualify for 3 free magazines. I asked no charge? To which she responds correct no charge then asks me to sign a paper saying I authorize bam to give my card and personal info to mags.com. I ask her about it she still tells me i won't be charged then another staff member says, "well you will be if you don't catch the email in 2 months". This should be said up front especially when I asked!!! Then I said just forget it i don't want magazine subscriptions only to be told it takes 24hrs to complete so I'll need to call back to cancel 🙄
Which brings me to my last point that the staff seem to never be able to do anything it's always call tomorrow, come back...
